The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation, 450 Newnan Lakes Blvd., Newnan — was inspected Dec. 29 and received a score of 100-A. Inspector’s remarks: not cooking or preparing foods during inspection. Water storage on second floor, extra food storage across the hall from kitchen.

Biscuits and Burritos, LLC — Mobile, 608 Earl North Road, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 16 and received a score of 100-A.

CC’s Wings and Things, 23 Franklin Road, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 20 and received a score of 83-B. Inspectors remarks: No CF SM, repeat violation. Observed shelled eggs stored beside ready to eat bagged cabbage, blue cheese crumbles and butter. PIC moved shelled eggs to appropriate location. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed grease buildup behind and beside fryers and on hood of fryers. Repeat violation.

Casa Frita, 180 Fairway Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Dec. 22 and received a score of 100-A.

Chylacas Mexican Restaurant, 3154 Highway 34 E., Suite 205 and 206, Newnan — was inspected on Dec. 29 and received a score of 77-C. Inspector remarks: Observed employee wash and rinse soiled plates, rinse hands in three-compartment sink and proceed to put away clean dishes. Hands must be washed in a handwash sink after handling soiled dishes before putting away clean dishes. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dish machine in bar area not testing for sanitizer. New violation. Observed TCS foods stored in prep-top cooler above proper cold holding temperature of 41 F such as diced tomato 47.2 F, guacamole 47.3 F, sour cream 47.7 F, cut lettuce 47.6 F, cooked pork 47 F, raw chicken 50.5 F, raw beef 49.3 F, ambient 50 F. New violation. Observed torn gasket on walk-in cooler door. New violation. Observed buildup inside light shields in prep and dry storage area. New Violation. Observed employee drinks in disposable cups with lids and straws over two prep-top coolers. Observed employee jacket hanging on dry storage rack containing food containers. New violation.

Kimble’s Food By Design/Skillet Kitchens/Jail C/O Coweta County Correctional Facility, 560 Greison Trail, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 19 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector remarks: Observed the following foods not reaching minimum safe cold holding temperature (41 F) in the walk-in cooler: scrambled eggs at 74 F, grits at 78 F, cheese grits at 71 F. All food items discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed mop sink leaking and handwashing sink leaking. New violation.

Depauls on Wheels, 550 Hayward Bishop Way, Senoia — was inspected on Dec. 20 and received a score of 100-A.

El Charro Newnan Inc., 77 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Jan. 3 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector remarks: Observed dish machine not testing adequate for sanitizer, will need to use the three-compartment sink to sanitize until machine is repaired. New violation. Observed employee drink in disposable cup with lid and straw on shelf next to metal food pans and over prep counter in main kitchen. Observed speaker on shelf over prep-top cooler. New violation. Observed missing light shield between grill and oven, bulbs were shielded but missing end caps. New violation.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, 1456 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan — was inspected Dec. 27 and received a score of 95-A. Observed old date mark stickers on outsides of food containers on clean dish rack, stickers should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing, food debris stuck on clean food containers. Date mark stickers and dirty food containers removed and washed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed plastic food and metal food containers wet stacked on dish drying rack. Dishes removed to be rewashed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

HJ Wings and Things — Sharpsburg, 20 Thomas Grace Annex Lane, Suite F, Sharpsburg — was inspected Dec. 21 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector remarks: Observed handwash sinks unable to reach 100 F. PIC reset hot water heater. By end of inspection, handwash sink reached 100 F. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed walk-in cooler, raw hamburger beside raw bacon, beside raw chicken. PIC moved items to appropriate location. Corrected on-site. New violation. Talked with PIC about possibly needing two copies of inspection posted because customers pay at table.

Holiday Inn Express, 4 Herring Road, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 16 and scored 94-A. Inspector remarks: Did not have food safety manager. Repeat violation.

Kool Bean Coffee, 300 Bullsboro Drive, Suite A, Newnan — was inspected Jan. 3 and scored 94-A. Inspector remarks: Observed a colander in handwash sink basin and a scrub brush hanging on the side of the sink, moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Need to post food service permit. New violation. Observed employee cup with lid in reach-in cooler over bottled waters, hand cream and other employee items on prep counter next to container of Stevia. New violation.

Little Caesars, 3219 Highway 34 E., Newnan — was inspected Dec. 21 and scored 90-A. Inspector remarks: Observed food particles on plastic food containers on dish drying rack. New violation. Observed employee making pizzas without hair restraint. New violation. Observed plastic food containers wet stacked on drying rack. New violation. Observed buildup on wire racks in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed heavy dust buildup on ceiling vents throughout kitchen area and in front food service area, two stained ceiling tiles in front food service area. New violation. Observed dustpan leaning against breadstick and wing prep station. New violation. Observed employee water bottle on breadstick and wing prep counter and a water bottle with dough press. Observed a speaker above prep-top cooler. New violation. No pizzas prepared in ready racks during inspections.

Panera Bread, 379 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 27 and scored 95-A. Inspector remarks: Observed chemical bottles stored on shelf with cooking utensils and equipment inside bottom of sandwich cooler, cooler being used for storage, chemicals separated from equipment and utensils during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two missing ceiling tiles over walk-in cooler. New violation. Observed broom and dustpan leaning between handwash sink and counter and beside oven in front food service area. New violation. Observed employee drinks in disposable cups with lids and straws on shelf above sugar packets and tea urn liners. New violation.

Poke City, 314 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 27 and scored 87-B. Inspector remarks: Observed handwash sink in prep area not working. PIC stated it is leaking so she turned water off. Repeat violation. Observed first aid kits and bandages stored over prep counter in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed household grade pest spray on chemical storage shelf. All pest control must be applied by a certified specialist. New violation. Observed sanitizer spray, glass cleaner and Clorox wipes on shelf with sriracha sauce, sesame oil and salt below front food area. Chemicals moved to chemical storage during inspection. Senkaku Hibachi and Sushi, 3149 Highway 34 E., Suite 200, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 21 and scored 90-A. Inspector remarks: Observed a bottle of sanitizer and multiple bottles of soap on shelf over fryer oil. Observed citrus spray stored next to styrofoam cups on front food service counter. Citrus spray moved during inspection. New violation. Observed a box of crawfish and two boxes of meat on floor in walk-in freezer. Observed containers of ginger on the floor below three-compartment sink drainboard. Buckets of mayonnaise on the floor in dry storage area. New violation. Observed bowls used to portion foods in raw shrimp, broccoli and cooked chicken in prep-top cooler. Observed scoop handles laying in raw beef and cut vegetables in prep-top cooler. Observed rice scoop in 118 F and 68 F water and grill utensils in 70 F water. New violation. Observed boxes of styrofoam take-out containers on the floor in dry storage area. New violation. Observed no quaternary ammonia test strips for sanitizer. New violation. Observed broom and dustpan leaning between handwash sink and prep counter in front food service area. New violation. Sip and Cigar, 15 Barnes St., Senoia — was inspected Dec. 20 and scored 100-A. Inspector remarks: Gave copy of employee health policy and norovirus cleanup procedure.

Subway #50113, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 30 and scored 96-A. Inspector remarks: Observed employees making sandwiches without hair restraints. New violation. Observed employee food, keys and jacket on shelf with packages of banana peppers on dry storage rack. New violation.

Sushi Ken, 1067 Bullsboro Drive D, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 30 and scored 86-B. Inspector remarks: Observed TCS foods stored above proper cold holding temperature of 41 F such as white rice 47 F, cooked pork 46.7 F, ambient 44 F in reach-in cooler, tempura batter 63.3 F, cooked shrimp 92 F and 83 F on table beside fryer, foods moved to cooler during inspection; imitation crab 44 F, cut lettuce 44 F, white rice 44 F, ambient 43 F in walk-in cooler. New violation. Observed two chemical spray bottles with no label in storage area of kitchen. New violation. Observed broken lid on deep freezer. New violation. Observed mop and bucket beside mop well, water should be discarded after use and mop hung to dry. New violation. Observed employee foods stored in walk-in cooler with produce. New violation. Taco Bell #39942, 1101 Lower Fayetteville Road, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 22 and scored 98-A. Inspector remarks: Observed plastic and metal food containers wet stacked on dish drying rack. New violation. Observed clamshell food boxes stored with food area facing upward on the prep line and cups stocked over the dispenser behind the front food service counter. New violation. Observed damaged plastic food container on dish drying rack. Container should be discarded. New violation.

Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse, 101 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 20 and scored 90-A. Inspector remarks: Observed no up-to-date signed employee health policies. New violation. Observed dish machine at 0 ppm sanitizer. PIC called maintenance and will be using sink to sanitize dishes. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed single-use containers with food surface exposed. Towneplace by Marriott Newnan, 4001 McIntosh Parkway, Newnan — was inspected Dec. 30 and scored 94-A. Inspector remarks: Need CF SM. Repeat violation.

Waffle House #2330, 1478 E. Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan — was inspected Dec. 21 and scored 96-A. Inspector remarks: Observed expired gallon of milk dated 12/18/22 in reach-in cooler.
