At the Nov. 8 meeting of the Coweta County Board of Education, fifth grade students from Thomas Crossroads Elementary School demonstrated a multi-faceted STEAM lesson based on the movie “Coco,” incorporating multiple subject goals to complete the project. After watching 10 minutes of the movie, students wrote their own narrative continuing the story, using a plot diagram as a graphic organizer. They created a visual representation of their narratives in art; used equivalent fractions to create and code a plot diagram path for Ozobots (programmable miniature robots) to follow in math; and recreated the “bone bridge” from the movie in science. They completed their activity by writing a summary using sequencing words.
