The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Back Roads BBQ, 2297 Highway 29 S., Moreland – was inspected Oct. 20 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed old cardboard box holding single use items. PIC discarded cardboard box. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Eat Thai, 33 E. Broad St., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 20 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed expired CFSM, need to renew certification. Repeat violation. Observed expired gallon of milk. PIC discarded milk. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cardboard lining bottom of reach-in freezer, cardboard boxes being reused to store items on dry storage shelf. New violation. Floors, walls, ceilings and hard-to-reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Build up on/underneath stove top, fryers and prep-top cooler. New violation. Observed employee food on food prep top surface and in reach-in cooler above consumer food. New violation.

Fuego Mar, 18 Main St., Senoia – was inspected Oct. 20 and received a score of 75-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed shell eggs and raw shrimp and scallops stored next to coleslaw, chorizo stored with ready-to-eat foods, corn stored next to raw seafood, and raw chicken stored in between two containers of raw beef in bottom of prep-top cooler. All foods placed in proper storage location during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed several containers of foods stored in walk-in cooler uncovered such as cooked squash and zucchini, raw shrimp and salmon, onions, mashed potatoes, prepped whole potatoes and broccoli. New violation. Observed sanitizer at three-compartment sink not testing adequately for sanitizer. Reviewed how to set up three-compartment sink during inspection. New violation. Observed TCS foods stored above proper cold holding temperature of 41 F such as pico de gallo 43.6 F, cut lettuce 44.5 F in prep-top cooler. Salsa 43.3 F in ice bath. Coleslaw 46 F, guacamole 45.8 F in reach-in cooler. New violation. Observed TCS foods stored below proper hot holding temperature of 135 F in steam well such as soup 102 F and 126 F. The Oink Joint, 9 E. Washington St., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 20 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed items held below 135 F in warmer cabinet including: macaroni and cheese 133 F, brunswick stew 126 F, collard greens 131 F, queso 129 F. PIC moved items to be reheated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no usable chlorine test strips. New violation. Observed dust build up on light shield, ceiling tiles and vent covers in main kitchen areas; rags propping open ceiling tiles; ceiling tiles bowing. Repeat violation.

Hil Corp JH Inc DBA Bistro Hilary, 21 Barnes St., Senoia – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwash sink beside dish used to dump bucket of sanitizer. Handwash sinks are for handwashing only. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Bojangles, 2800 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed metal pans wet stacked. Pans rewashed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed hot water at hand wash sinks throughout main kitchen and in restroom only reaching 70 F. Repeat violation. Observed dumpster missing drain plug. New violation. Observed dumpster doors open. Doors closed during inspection. New violation. Observed broom and dustpans leaning against walls and food prep surface. Brooms and dustpans returned to appropriate location during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Country Inn & Suites, 1125 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 79-C. Inspector’s comments: PIC not able to meet one of the three required options for demonstration of knowledge. New violation. Did not have employee health policy which includes a system of employee notification using a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to convey all of the required information on the DPH Guidance Form(s) to all food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. New violation. Observed the following foods not reaching safe minimum (41 F) temperatures: Ice packs: waffle batter at 48 F and milk on ice at 46 F. Milk and waffle mix discarded during inspection. El Ranchero, 211 Bullsboro Drive E., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 25 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed black build up on back wall of ice bin. New violation. Observed knife with tomato seed on blade hanging on knife strip. New violation. Observed a dented can of whole tomatoes in can rack, can discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employees cooking foods and washing dishes with no hair restraints. New violation. Observed metal and styrofoam food containers stored with the food area facing upward over prep-top coolers. New violation.

Golden Krust, 1485 Highway 34 E., Suite C2, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cooked shrimp with no date marking in grab and go reach-in cooler, PIC stated shrimp were cooked on Saturday 10/22. Reviewed proper date marking procedure with PIC. PIC moved shrimp to prep area to be dated during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed scoop handle laying in seasoning, handle should be positioned above the content in which it is stored. New violation. Need to recaulk behind hand wash sink in main kitchen area. J&T Hospitalities/HJ Wings & Things West Newnan, 485 W. Highway 16, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 26 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed frozen raw hamburger patties and frozen philly meat stored uncovered in deep freezer, foods covered during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dried food particles on inside of microwave. New violation. Observed no date and time on TCS foods held using time as a public health control, such as chicken tenders 72 F, fried cauliflower 70 F, fried mushrooms 70 F, hand-cut fries 67 F, wings 64 F and 66 F, chicken tenders 74 F. PIC placed correct date and time on foods during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sliced turkey and ham thawing in container of 47 F water in sink basin, cool running water turned on over deli meat during inspection to ensure proper thawing. Corrected on-site. Inspector’s comments: Observed no up to date signed employee health reporting agreements for majority of employees. New violation. Observed no paper towels at handwash sink beside office. PIC replaced paper towels. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed items with no date labels or old date labels, including deli ham, pepperoni and onion, PIC added date labels and removed old labels. Corrected on-site. New violation. Lepoma’s Pizzeria, 6855 E. Highway 16, Senoia – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed expired certified food safety manager certification. New violation. Observed dried pizza sauce on plastic lid on clean dish rack, lid moved to three-compartment sink to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized. Observed old date mark stickers on outsides of food containers on clean dish rack, stickers should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing. New violation. Observed a bottle of acetaminophen on shelf with cannolis, chocolate syrup and parmesan cheese and above shredded mozzarella cheese in walk-in cooler. Medication moved during inspection. Little Caesars, 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite G, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 25 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried dough on outside and inside of dough mixer. New violation. Observed TCS foods in prep-top cooler above proper cold holding temperature of 41 F such as diced ham 44 F, beef crumbles 45.8 F and in walk-in cooler pepperoni 43.7 F, sausage crumble 43.9 F. New violation. Observed pepperoni pizzas in ready racks at 67 F without timer running. PIC stated they were made an hour prior to inspection, ready racks turned on during inspection. Matt’s Small Town Pizza, 53 Main St., Suite E, Senoia – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Old frozen chicken thawing in prep sink with no running water. McDonalds #29679, 2907 Georgia Highway 85, Senoia – was inspected Oct. 21 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer bucket above proper concentration for sanitizer, reviewed with PIC how to properly make sanitizer bucket. New violation. Observed a box of happy meal buckets on the floor, box moved off the floor during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Newk’s Eatery, 368 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Oct. 25 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no signed employee health agreements for majority of employees. New violation. Observed lettuce prepped today in prep-top cooler above 41 F. PIC moved items to be cooled. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed wet stacked pans. New violation. Observed single use to go boxes and lids stored with food surface exposed. PIC inverted items. Corrected on-site. New violation. PIC refused to sign inspection.

Planet Smoothie #18389, 109 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer bucket in hand wash sink basin, a spoon and portion cups around sink basin in front food service area. Sanitizer bucket and spoon moved and portion cups discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed ice scoop stored in bucket with pink mold on inside of bucket. Ice scoop and bucket placed in three-compartment sink area to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Sage @ Trinity Christian Early Learning Center, 3935 E. Highway 34, Sharpsburg – was inspected Oct. 24 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed hand wash sink not operational in back of kitchen area, soap dispenser and dustpan in sink basin. New violation. No soap at hand wash sink in back of kitchen area, soap dispenser in sink basin. New violation. No paper towels at hand wash sink in back of kitchen area. New violation. Observed black spotting on corner of deflector shield and wall of ice machine. New violation. Observed dish machine not operating properly, dish machine is not running adequate wash, rinse and sanitize cycles. Dish machine not testing for sanitizer. Observed coleslaw dated 10/25 at 54 F and 49 F in reach-in cooler behind front food service counter, PIC moved coleslaw to walk-in cooler and stated cooler dial got turned up when putting coleslaw in the cooler. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer bucket not testing adequately for sanitizer, sanitizer remade during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cooked chicken 54 F and brisket 57 F cooling on sheet pans stacked on top of each other, restricting air flow and preventing proper cooling in reach-in cooler. Jersey Mike’s Subs, 8080 Wells St., Suite G, Senoia – was inspected Oct. 31 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed front hand wash sink with bucket of water in sink basin, bucket moved during inspection. Observed rear hand wash sink with sanitizer spray bottle in sink basin and trash can blocking access to sink, sanitizer and trash can moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed vegetable seed on metal food lid, lid returned to dish washing area to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized.
