The Newnan Cougars traveled to Douglasville on Friday night for a Region 5-6A contest against the South Paulding Spartans.

After a quick start by South Paulding, the Cougars scored a touchdown to pull within 21-7, but the Spartans pulled away for a 42-14 victory.

The Spartans quarterback, Kasen Weisman, a Kansas commit, had four touchdown passes and scored another on a 34-yard touchdown run. South Paulding receiver Hayden Jackson caught three of the scoring passes.

The Cougars got a first-half rushing touchdown from quarterback James Paige and a second-half touchdown from Antevius Berry.

With the impending hurricane approaching the Atlanta area this weekend, the Cougars have moved up their game; initially scheduled for Friday night at East Paulding, it will now be played on Thursday night.

The Cougars and the East Paulding Raiders are looking to get back into the region playoff mix with a victory.

East Paulding is led by quarterback Baylor Thomason, running back Javen Parker and receiver Camron Jones.
