Softball is back!

High School softball is back. The Georgia High School Association schedule allowed practice to start on Monday, Aug. 1 and official games begin on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Newnan and Northgate both have home scrimmage games on Wednesday. Newnan will host Whitewater while Northgate welcomes in LaGrange.

This weekend, Northgate and Trinity Christian travel to LaGrange for a season-opening tournament.

The Lady Vikings will play defending Class 5A state champion Starr's Mill on Friday and then LaGrange and Brookstone on Saturday.

The Lady Lions will play North Murray and Callaway on Saturday.

East Coweta sets its sights on returning to the state playoffs in Columbus when they host Central Carrollton on Monday in a scrimmage game. They open their regular season next Wednesday at home against Troup County.

Newnan also plays next Wednesday at home against Central Carrollton. The Lady Cougars are in unfamiliar territory as they compete in Region 5-6A this season.

The Lady Cougars and Lady Indians will continue their rivalry despite the fact they are no longer region mates. Newnan will host the game this year on Wednesday, August 24.

At Heritage, Head Coach Kerry Holcombe takes over the Lady Hawks softball program. The Lady Hawks will compete in Georgia Independent Athletic Association Region 5-AAAAA this season, along with Brookstone, St. Anne Pacelli, St. Mary's and Strong Rock Christian.

The Lady Hawks open their season next Tuesday on the road in Macon against Stratford Academy.
