The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Buffalo Wild Wings #690, 355 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 9 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following foods not reaching minimum safe cold holding temperatures (41 F): In the reach-in cooler Chicken at 51 F, Cheese sauce at 44 F, Beef chili at 45 F and 44 F, tomato sauce at 44 F, macaroni and cheese at 48 F and chicken at 44 F. On the prep-top cooler salsa at 44 F. All foods placed in the walk-in cooler to cool. New violation. Observed plastic drinking cups wet stacked at drink stations. New violation.

Hooters, 1001 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 10 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwashing sink without hand drying provisions. Paper towels provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sanitizing bucket not reaching minimum sanitizing strength. PIC remade sanitizing solution. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed chemical spray bottle sitting on top of cooler at bar. Item moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed ice buildup inside walk-in freezer, accumulation of buildup in hard to reach areas, missing tiles on wall behind cook line, ice machine repaired with duct tape, leaks in outside storage roof. New violation. Observed numerous live flies throughout the kitchen. Reviewed recent pest records flies targeted both interior and exterior. Records did not state any structural findings to be corrected. New violation. Observed gap between the floor and door at the back door. New violation.

McDonald’s #03149, 58 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 10 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed paper towel dispenser not dispensing paper towels at hand wash sink in front of kitchen. Dispenser was jammed, fixed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee place blender bowl in hand wash sink basin, removed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed mold on deflector shield of ice machine and buildup on soda nozzle in drive-thru area. New violation. Observed food particles on three food containers on dish drying rack, containers returned to three-compartment sink area during inspection to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed TCS foods held on time as a public health control with expired time stickers. Lettuce 61 F and 64 F discard time 2:11 p.m., changed during inspection. Stickers must be changed when lettuce is restocked and foods discarded when time expires. Corrected on-site. New violation. Current inspection report not posted. New violation. Observed several stacks of single-use clamshell food containers stored with food area facing upward on food-prep line. Inverted during inspection. Me Lumpia Long Time, 178 Robison Road, Moreland – was inspected Aug. 11 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed rice made on 8/10 at 50 F. PIC discarded rice. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Pathways Center, 74 Hospital Road, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 10 and received a score of 100-A.

Sweet Krunch, 1111 E. Highway 34 Suite 12, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 10 and received a score of 71-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee place cucumber slices on fried rice with bare hands. Observed employee make tacos with bare hands. PIC corrected employee and had him remake tacos. Employee removed taco shells from the grill again with bare hands and began making tacos using bare hands. Foods discarded and remade during inspection, employees put on gloves during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee rinse hands in three-compartment sink after handling raw shrimp, directed employee to the hand wash sink during inspection to properly wash hands. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed raw chicken stored over cucumber, cooked pork beside raw beef, and raw shrimp on shelf with ready to eat foods in walk-in cooler. Foods placed in proper storage location during inspection. Observed employee place pan of raw chicken on bulk rice bin and container for cut raw chicken on bulk flour bin while prepping chicken. Pan of raw chicken and container of raw chicken placed on empty buckets during inspection to prevent cross contamination. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a bottle of sriracha sauce and cooking wine on shelf with chemicals, moved during inspection. Observed gloves stored on chemical rack. New violation. Observed three bottles of household grade pesticide spray, all pest control must be applied by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed two scoops with handles laying in sugar in bulk bins and a cup being used as a scoop in ice machine, scoops must have handles. Cup removed during inspection. New violation. Observed one stack of takeout trays stored with food area facing upward over prep-top cooler. New violation. Observed a box of cups on the floor in front food service area, moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a broom and dust pan leaning next to hand wash sink in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed a bottle of Pedialyte over blender and a jacket on top of spice rack. Observed speaker on bulk sugar container. New violation.

Zaxby’s #63012, 759 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 12 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a chemical spray bottle stored next to take out boxes on bottom shelf of prep table. Chemical spray bottle moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed gaps in metal flooring in walk-in freezer, flooring in need of repair. Observed split gasket on reach-in cooler door. New violation. Observed employee drink in a disposable cup with lid and straw stored on counter next to cookie oven. Moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Art and Jake’s, 510 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 15 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed a spoon in hand wash sink basin in server line area, removed during inspection. Observed no cold water and hot water reaching 139 F at hand wash sinks in dish washing area and in food prep area. Sinks repaired during inspection. Observed ice and lemon wedges in hand wash sink basin in dish washing area. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dish machine in bar area not reaching sufficient ppm for sanitizer. PIC instructed bartender to take bar ware to kitchen dish washing area until repaired. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed food particles inside microwaves in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed food particles on plates on rack on grill line, plates removed and placed in dish washing area to be re-washed, rinsed and sanitized during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed meatloaf 88 F and ribs 100 F in steam table, moved to walk-in cooler during inspection until a proper reheat can be done. PIC stated foods would be reheated in the oven to 165 F, before placing in steam table. Corrected on-site. New violation. Cancer Treatment Centers of America of South East, 600 Celebrate Life Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizing solution buckets not reaching minimum sanitizing testing strength. New sanitizing solution made. Corrected on-site. New violation. Hard boiled eggs at 49 F stored in plastic, covered container inside walk-in cooler — moved to blast chiller. Salads at 55 F stored in plastic containers with lid closed inside walk-in cooler — moved to walk-in freezer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed spoon handle touching contents of food container in multiple containers in front food service area. Spoons removed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

CC’s Wings & Things, 23 Franklin Road, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No CFSM. Repeat violation. Observed frozen chicken in sink without running water. PIC moved chicken back to freezer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed grease buildup behind/beside fryers and on hood of fryers. Observed buildup on bins of flour and on shelves. New violation.

Crispi Chik & Things, 140 W. Washington St., Newnan – was inspected Aug. 12 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: CFSM listed as Amos Wallace, but he is listed at TLM Enterprise in Fulton County. New violation. Observed sanitizer at less than minimum concentration. PIC remade sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed that facility’s quaternary test strips had been wet, which means they no longer could measure sanitizer. PIC did not have another bottle of quaternary test strips. New violation.

Culver’s, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 17 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food particles on multiple scoops in drawer, scoops returned to dish area to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized. Observed old date mark stickers on food bins on clean dish rack. Stickers should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing. Observed tomato peels on manual slicer on clean dish rack. New violation. Observed plastic food containers wet stacked on clean dish rack. New violation. Observed multiple stacks of clamshell boxes stacked with food area facing upward, food containers should be stored inverted to protect the food area. New violation. Observed employee water bottle on lower shelf next to box of croutons. Observed employee bin in reach-in cooler over box of creamers. New violation.

HJ Wings & Things - Sharpsburg, 20 Thomas Grace Annex Lane Suite F, Sharpsburg – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed batter at 47 F by fryer, batter moved to walk-in cooler during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed wings at 122 F in fryer basket with no time. Time placed on wings during inspection. Observed chicken tenders at 93 F with no time. Tenders moved to cooler during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two split gaskets on reach-in freezer doors, one in main kitchen area and one in bar area. Buildup and food particles inside prep-top coolers in main kitchen area should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. Leaf and Bean Newnan, 22 W. Court Square, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 15 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee dump drink in hand wash sink. New violation. Observed employees behind front food service counter making drinks and foods with no hair restraints. New violation. Observed employee drink beside microwave in front food service area. Observed employee bags and keys on prep counter in back kitchen area, moved during inspection. New violation.

Nard BBQ, 204 N. Highway 29, Hogansville – was inspected Aug. 12 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed TCS foods stored in pans with lids on the counter below proper hot holding temperature of 135 F such as chicken legs 133 F, ribs 130 F and hamburgers 127 F. Foods should be placed in hot holding equipment. New violation. Observed pulled pork cooling in container with lid at 90 F, PIC stated it was pulled from the smoker 1 ½ hours prior to inspection, not reaching minimum cooling standards. Reviewed proper cooling method with PIC. New violation.

Newnan Senior Center, 29 Hospital Road, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed single use items stored with food surface exposed. PIC inverted items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Peking Restaurant, 7280 Highway 16, Senoia – was inspected Aug. 15 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed two metal bowls used to portion raw meats stored above vegetables in top of prep-top coolers, bowls moved during inspection. Observed in prep-top cooler: raw shrimp behind vegetables and tofu, shelled eggs behind cooked chicken, and egg yolk in a bowl stored in the onion container. PIC moved items to correct location. Observed in reach-in cooler raw shrimp beside sauces. PIC moved shrimp. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed cooked chicken held on counter at 93 F. PIC moved item into walk-in cooler. Observed cooked pork wonton held in reach-in cooler at 52 F with lid on. PIC removed lid and moved to walk-in cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Popeyes Chicken/QFC Corporation Inc., 95 Fischer Crossing, Sharpsburg – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hot water and a sign stating “do not use” at hand wash sink in chicken breading area/fryer area, PIC stated employees are to use hand wash sink in dish washing area until repaired. Hand wash sink in dish washing area had water turned off, water turned on during inspection, handles on faucet not working properly. Hot water at all hand wash sinks in kitchen area only reaching 85 F, should reach a minimum temperature of 100 F for proper hand washing. New violation. Scoops stored in water between use must be stored in water with a minimum temperature of 135 F or in a running dipper well. New violation. Sushi Ken, 1067 Bullsboro Drive D, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer bucket at less than minimum concentration. PIC remade bucket. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cooked shrimp on counter at 53 F. PIC placed shrimp back in cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed open bags of flour, etc. on shelf. Texas Roadhouse, 1127 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 12 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed items in prep-top cooler and reach-in cooler above 41 F including shredded cheese 54 F, hot dog 49 F, cheese 48 F, hotdog 47 F and raw chicken 62 F. PIC discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed chicken tenders hot held under heat lamp at 124 F. PIC discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation. The Local Nutrition, 6855 Highway 16, Senoia – was inspected Aug. 15 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no signed employee health policies. New violation. Inspector’s comments: Observed sauces and soup bowls behind hand wash sink basin below paper towel and soup dispenser. Observed a sponge in hand wash sink basin in sushi area. Observed chicken at 50 F at 10:15 a.m. and at 50 F at 10:50 a.m., diced hard-boiled eggs at 50 F at 10:15 a.m. and 49 F at 10:50 a.m., diced turkey at 44 F at 10:15 a.m. and at 44 F at 10:50 a.m. Food was being rolled out to be served. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following foods in the front food service area not reaching minimum safe cold holding temperatures (41 F): Ice bath: Tuna salad at 47 F, potato salad at 50 F, chicken at 57 F and sliced tomatoes at 62 F. PIC discarded food items during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.
