Football scrimmages this weekend

The Newnan Times-Herald

While the high school regular football season is still two weeks away, teams began full practices this week under the watchful eye of coaches and trainers.

Three teams will get a jump this weekend with scrimmage games on the calendar. Newnan hosts Griffin on Friday night at Drake Stadium while Trinity Christian will host Jonesboro.

Saturday, The Heritage School finishes out the first appetizer for 2022 high school football when they welcome The Walker School.

For Newnan, it will be an opportunity for the Cougar defense to test themselves against a Griffin offense that scored 42 points against Jones County last year in the state playoffs.

The Trinity Christian Lions face a Jonesboro team that won four of its last five regular season games to qualify for the state playoffs. Jonesboro finished the year 7-4 in Class 5A but has moved up to class 6-A this season.

The Walker Wolverines from Marietta had a tough 2021 season, so they and the Hawks are looking to get off to a solid start.

Friday games start at 7:30 pm and Saturday games at 1 p.m.
