Second victim dies in West Point Lake drowning incident

Officials say the woman identified as Stephanie Walker was in ICU at Well Star West Georgia Medical Center since the incident on June 11 and never recovered.

A second drowning victim from an incident at West Point Lake has passed away, authorities confirmed.

Last Friday, Stephanie Walker, 49, passed away at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center where she’d been in the ICU since the incident.

On June 11, authorities with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Fire Department and Troup County AMR responded to West Point Lake near the 400 block of Lower Glass Bridge Road regarding a possible drowning involving two victims.

When deputies arrived, they found Walker unresponsive and not breathing.

Deputies immediately began life-saving measures, and Walker was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.

A second victim, identified as Walker’s 13-year-old granddaughter, Makayla Prather, was located and recovered after a search operation conducted by a dive team with the Columbus, Georgia, Fire and Rescue.
