The Patrons of the Nixon Centre recently awarded scholarships to local graduating seniors in the community who have excelled in the performing and visual arts.
Applicants are chosen based on their accomplishments and excellence in their chosen artistic discipline.
Throughout the selection process, students are required to present their portfolio or performance to judges who specialize in their specific fine arts category, in addition to submitting reference letters from fine arts teachers and other acquaintances outside of their artistic pursuits.
All applicants selected to receive a scholarship will also then qualify for the Ann Quinn Powell scholarship, to be awarded after an additional interview process. This year, ten scholarships were presented to the following Coweta County students:
Anne Quinn Powell $5,000 Scholarships were presented to Kennedy Murray of Newnan High School and Brynn Adams from East Coweta High School. Kennedy Murray of Newnan High was awarded the Patrons of the Nixon Centre Choral $1,000 Scholarship. Brynn Adams was also awarded the Harriet Owens Alexander Visual Arts $1,500 Scholarship.
Wynn Handman Drama $1,000 Scholarships were awarded to Amber Williams of Northgate High School and Kennedy Murray from Newnan High School. Northgate’s Amber Williams was awarded the Wynn Handman Drama $1,000 Scholarship and Darrin L. Smith of East Coweta High School was awarded the Patrons of the Nixon Centre Dance $1,000 Scholarship.
Taytum Jenkins from East Coweta High School was awarded the Richard Brooks Visual Arts $1,000 Scholarship, while Emma Willingham of Newnan High School was awarded the Newnan Coweta Art Association $1,000 Scholarship.
Drew McBride from East Coweta High School was awarded the Newnan Coweta Art Association $1,000 Scholarship and Reghan Benkert from East Coweta High School was awarded the Newnan Coweta Art Association $1,000 Scholarship.
