The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Culver's, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 9 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed heavy food debris buildup on can opener. Can opener moved to be washed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two boxes of fish and one box of onion rings stored on floor in walk-in freezer. Boxes of fish and box of onion rings moved off the floor during the inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed single-use cups stored on front counter on food trays. Cups should be stored in protective sleeves to protect lip contact surface. New violation. Observed single-use to-go food containers stored on floor. To-go food containers moved off the floor during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed missing ceiling tile above walk-in cooler, dust buildup on ceiling vents along the back wall of kitchen. Repeat violation. Observed employee drinks stored with consumer foods in a reach-in cooler, employee drink on food prep-surface and an employee coat stored on top of dry food goods on dry storage rack. All employee drinks and belongings moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Grayson's Steak & Seafood, 91 Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 9 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cut steaks stored in vacuum-sealed packages in walk-in cooler and cooler drawer. Person-in-charger stated foods are vacuum-sealed on-site. This method of food storage requires a HACCP plan. Repeat violation. Observed food residue buildup in the microwave. Microwave cleaned during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Fried Tomato Buffet, 1180 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 9 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on ice machine baffle and drink nozzles in kitchen drink area. Ice machine baffle and drink nozzles should be cleaned frequently to prevent buildup. New violation. Observed sanitizing solution in three-compartment sink empty and not dispensing sanitizing solution. Sanitizing solution changed out during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dishes wet-stacked on dish rack. Dishes should be allowed to dry before stacking and storing. New violation.

RPM Full Service, 15 Jackson Street, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 9 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no certified food safety manager certificate on premises. New violation. Observed no up to date signed employee health policies. New violation. Observed cheese sauce, frozen chicken and frozen chili at less than 125F in steam-well. Informed person-in-charge items must be warmed to appropriate temperatures before benign placed in steam-well. PIC moved items to be reheated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed single-use to go containers with food surface exposed. Items need to be inverted to protect food surface form contamination. New violation.

Starbucks Coffee #56062, 1200 Bullsboro Drive, Suite A, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 9 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: No up to date signed employee health policies. New violation. Observed half-and-half and heavy whipping cream on counter at 63F and 64F, respectively. Person-in-charge discarded them. Corrected on-site. Observed unopened boxes of strawberry flavoring with expiration date of Sept. 26, 2021. PIC discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Towneplace by Marriott Newnan, 4001 McIntosh Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 100-A.

Christy's Cafe, 27 Jackson Street, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no current Certified Food Safety Manager. New violation. Observed majority of workers without signed employee health policies. New violation. Observed handwash sink in kitchen area blocked by bucket. Person-in-charge moved bucket. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed shelled eggs on counter at 61F with no time stamp. PIC added time stamp. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed boxes of single-use items stored on floor in upstairs dry storage. New violation. OBserved employee drink stored above food items at server station. Observed employee purse and belongings stored beside food items underneath backroom counter. New violation.

Dairy Queen #40589, 1700 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector's comments: Did not have employee health policy, which includes a system of employee notification suing a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to conveyor all of the required information on the DPH Guidance Form(s) to all food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. Employee signed policy during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed incorrect inspection report displayed at drive thru window and lobby. New violation. Observed multiple boxes of single-use/single-service containers on the floor in the lobby. Little Caesars, 3219 Highway 34 E, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food container sitting on top of handwashing sink in the back by the three-compartment sink. Container moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed heavy dust buildup in main kitchen area and front food service area on ceiling vents and tiles, buildup on wall behind three-compartment sink, buildup on racks containing clean dishes, pizza ready racks and racks at breadstick making station. Repeat violation. Observed employee drink and belongings stored on back rack around single-use items. Employee belongings moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Senor Taco, 75 Main Street, Senoia – was inspected Dec. 10 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw lobster tails stored next to raw chicken in cooler drawer below grill. Lobster tails moved to bottom of prep-top cooler during inspection. Observed raw ground beef stacked on top of raw shrimp above cut vegetables, and raw chicken and raw pork stored next to sauces, pineapple and cooked pork in bottom of prep-top cooler. Foods moved to proper storage location during inspection. Observed raw steak, raw pork and raw chorizo stored over cooked beef and cooke chicken in reach-in cooler. Barberitos A Southwestern Grille & Cantina, 335 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer buckets at less than minimum concentration. Person-in-charge made new buckets. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed unsealed container and bag of sugar under drink service area. Food items should be stored sealed. New violation. Observed inspection report from May 10, 2021 of 87 posted an not Sept. 1, 2021 of 77 posted. New violation. Observed dust buildup around vents surrounding ceiling tiles. New violation.

Karvelas Pizza Company, 7 LaGrange Street, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed a dirty lid in back handwash ink. Person-in-charge removed link from sink. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed raw ground sausage stored beside raw bacon and beside ready-to-eat foods in walk-in cooler. La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant, 222 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Building 100, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wiping cloths being pulled out of handwashing sink and being used to rinse out drink container at front of kitchen. Observed wiping cloth being rinsed out at handwashing sink across from ice machine. Handwashing sinks are for handwashing only. New violation.

Leaf and Bean Newnan, 22 W Court Square, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed expired 2 percent milk and heavy whipping cream with expiration dates of Dec. 12 and Dec. 11, respectively. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. Life of the South Catering, 6 Lee Street, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw beef stored over and beside fully cooked packaged ham in grab and go reach-in cooler, raw pork tenderloins stored in plastic food container with packaged fully cooked hams and over cooked rice and chicken in reach-in cooler. New violation. No date marking on several prepared foods in reach-in cooler such as sliced ham, cooked bacon, pasta, ground beef, rice and cooked chicken. Observed no date marking on grab and go items in reach-in cooler such as chicken gumbo, vegetable soup, potato soup, tuna salad, casserole, pimento cheese and lobster bisque. New violation. Observed several food items for sale in grab and go cooler with no food labels or date marking. Gave copy of food labeling guidelines. New violation. Observed bulk sugar bin with no label. Summer Grove Golf Club, 335 Summer Grove Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 13 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on inside of ice machine. New violation. Observed the following foods in the reach-in cooler and bottom of prep-top cooler exceeding their date marking: macaroni salad, Dec. 10, 2021; sour cream, Nov. 5, 2021; chicken salad, Dec. 11, 2021; rice, Dec. 12, 2021; potato salad, Nov. 27, 2021; meatloaf, Aug. 21, 2021; and gravy, Dec. 12, 2021. Foods discarded during inspection. No date mark stickers on sliced pork and pimento cheese in reach-in cooler or grab and go sandwich in bar area cooler. New violation. Observed chicken wings on sheet pan cooling between 64-67F. Person-in-charge stated wings were cooked 30 minutes ago and are cooled on pan then placed in freezer. PIC did not know what temperature the wings were when they were removed from fryer and stated no temperatures are taken while wings are cooling. Reviewed proper cooling method with PIc. Wings moved to freezer during inspection. New violation. Observed buildup under grill area, floors, walls, ceilings and hard to reach areas need to be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. American Deli Newnan #2, 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite C, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 14 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no bodily fluid clean up procedure. Gave person-in-charge copy of procedure. New violation. Observed scoops in the rice and sugar with handle touching the product. PIC removed scoops. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Arby's, 65 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 16 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwashing sink by three-compartment sink not having hand drying provisions. Paper towels provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed the following foods not reaching minimum-safe cold-holding temperatures of 41F, in the prep-top cooler: deli beef at 44F, deli chicken at 44F, lamb at 51F, deli turkey at 45F and deli beef at 45F. Deli beef, beef, turkey and chicken placed in ice bath to cool. Lamb discarded. Observed the following foods not reaching minimum-safe cold-holding temperatures of 41F, in the reach-in cooler: lamb at 50F and deli chicken at 53F. Lamb and chicken discarded. Corrected on-site. B's Kitchen, 226 Greenville Street, Suite F, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 16 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed items in prep-top and reach-in cooler above 41F. Person-in-charge turned cooler down. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Blimpie, 10 Franklin Road, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 14 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed boxes of bagged chips stored on floor. Person-in-charge moved boxes. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Brickhouse Tavern and Grill, 80 Newnan Station Drive, Suite K, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 14 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no up to date signed employee health policies. New violation. Observed a cutting board in handwash sink in kitchen. Observed no paper towels at handwash sink in kitchen. Person-in-charge moved cutting board and replaced paper towels. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dishwasher, not sanitizer, at less than minimum concentration. Observed sanitizer bucket at less than minimum concentration. Table prevents access to handwash sink, path to handwash sink from dishwashing area and food prep-area is greater than the required distance for handwashing sink. New violation. Observed raw foods stored with cooked foods in prep-top cooler, such as raw bacon and shell eggs stored over cooked fish and corn and spinach and coleslaw stored next to raw shrimp. Taqueria Oasis Bar and Grill LLC, 11 Spence Avenue, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 16 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one chemical spray bottle next to handwash sink in cooking area with no label. New violation. Observed no handwash sign at handwash sink in cooking area. The Juicy Crab, 1120 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 16 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw shrimp stored behind ready-to-eat hard boiled eggs on prep-top cooler and celery next to raw crayfish in the reach-in cooler across from grill line. Celery and hard boiled eggs moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Wendy's #9117, 1645 Highway 20 S, Newnan – was inspected Dec. 14 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed shell eggs stored over packages of cooked ground beef and beans and with vanilla and chocolate drink mixes. Shell eggs moved during inspection. Corrected on-site.
