Tattoo parlor could come to Grantville

The Newnan Times-Herald

Based on recommendations from the city of Grantville's planning commission, the Grantville City Council voted to begin the process of allowing a tattoo shop in the city limits.

For a tattoo parlor to open, the city will have to adopt a zoning ordinance that allows special-use permits in the city's general commercial zoning district.

According to city attorney Mark Mitchell, the amendment to the city's zoning ordinance will require public hearings before it can be adopted.

He said the vote affirms that the council wants to begin the process of adopting the amendment.

"Basically, giving us direction to move forward with taking the steps necessary," he said.

If the amendment is approved, applicants will have to come before the city council to obtain a special-use permit to open a tattoo shop.

"The recommendation is to allow tattoo shops as a special-use permit. That would require anytime someone wanted to open a tattoo shop in the general commercial district to come before the council to request for a special-use permit, and allow the council to put any conditions you felt were necessary," Mitchell said.

The special-use permits will be given to individuals, so if the store closes, the next owner will have to come before the council and submit the same application, Mitchell said.
