Each year, the VFW Post 2667 & Auxiliary sponsors the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. The contest is open to all middle school students. Entries must be 300-400 words and based on the theme given each year.
This year's theme was "How Can I Be A Good American?"
VFW Post 2667 Commander Jeffrey Bouchard awarded Blake Bass Middle School student Meagan Parham with a certificate and a monetary award for winning second place for the Post in the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. Meagan was also the first place School Winner.
There were 101 total entries from seven schools this year.
Each middle school is judged separately and chooses a first, second and third place school winner.
All first place students are then judged again by different judges and the first, second and third place
Post winners are determined.
School winners included first place winner Meagan Parham, second place winner Reese Owens and third place winner Molly Hannan.
The VFW Post 2667 also sponsors the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.
Awards are given for the Elementary, Middle and High School Levels. This year's first place Middle School Winner for the Post was Ashley Dawson, Bass Middle School. She received a certificate and a monetary award. She was nominated by Jeff Bouchard.
