The East Coweta Lady Indians softball team (20-1) claimed the Region 2-7A championship Thursday afternoon.
After a week of rain, the region tournament was canceled, and the regular season order of finish was accepted.
The four teams to qualify from region 2-7A include champion East Coweta, the Newnan Lady Cougars, Campbell and McEachern.
Both East Coweta and Newnan will host first-round state playoff games at home on Wednesday.
The Lady Indians will face Brookwood (10-14) in the first round, while Newnan will play Newton County (11-13). Both series will be doubleheaders on Wednesday, with the third game on Thursday if necessary.
It has been an unprecedented year for weather in softball this season. The Lady Indians typically play a 30-game regular-season schedule but finished the year with only 21 games.
Especially troubling to Lady Indians Head Coach Franklin DeLoach is that they have not had real game action in 12 days when the first round starts next week.
To tune up for the matchup with Brookwood, the Lady Indians will play a full split-squad scrimmage Monday afternoon.
