The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Alley's Barbecue - Base, 3 Pine Ridge Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 19 and received a score of 100-A.

Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation, 450 Newnan Lakes Blvd., Newnan – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: No food safety manager certification posted. New violation.

The Auction House 29 LLC, 5454 N. Highway 29, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 11 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: No Food Safety Manager. New violation. Observed buildup in microwave. New violation. No testing strips for chlorine sanitizing solution. New violation.

Buffalo Wild Wings #690, 355 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 18 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed TCS foods in two prep-top coolers above proper cold-holding temperature of 41 F such as cut lettuce as 59 F, sliced tomato at 54 F, sliced tomato at 51.4 F, chicken at 49.2 F, brisket at 48.5 F, salsa at 46.7 F, cut lettuce at 52 F, pico de gallo at 46.4 F, sliced tomato at 49.8 F and sour cream at 51.9 F. Observed batter mix at 46.6 F at breading station. Batter prepped this morning should be cooled to 41 F or below before it is put into the breading station. All foods in prep-top cooler units moved to walk-in cooler during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two scoop handles laying in lettuce. Scoops removed during inspection. Burger King #9411, 415 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 25 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no choking poster posted in the lobby. New violation.

Chick Fil-A Newnan Crossing FSU #3445, 2090 Newnan Crossing Boulevard E. – was inspected Aug. 16 and received a score of 100-A.

Chylaca’s Mexican Restaurant, 3154 Highway 34 E., Suite 205 and 206 – was inspected Aug. 17 and received a score of 75-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed ice in handwash sink basin in main kitchen area and a drink stirrer in handwash sink basin in bar area. Need employee handwash sign at handwash sink in bar area. New violation. Observed no soap at handwash sink in bar area. New violation. Observed no paper towels at handwash sink in bar area. New violation. Observed a plastic food container of raw onions stacked on top of a plastic food container of raw chicken, a box of raw chicken stacked on boxes of raw beef, a plastic container of raw ground beef stacked on top of a box of raw pork stacked on a box of raw ground beef, boxes of unwashed bell peppers stored on shelf above cut prepped bell peppers and containers of salsa and a box of shell eggs stored next to plastic containers of sauces in walk-in cooler. Observed employee drink in disposable cup with lid and straw on prep-table next to grill area and multiple employee bottled rinks in reach-in freezer. New violation. Chylaca's Mexican Restaurant and Grill, 20 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 19 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two glasses and a stirrer in handwash sink basin in bar area. Person-in-charge removed dishes from sink basin. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed trash piled above lid in dumpster area. New violation. Observed torn screen door in rear of kitchen, chipped floor tiles and low grout throughout kitchen, chipped tiles in walk-in cooler, two torn gaskets on walk-in cooler door and reach-in freezer door. Prep-table with rusted shelf in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed two employee drinks in reach-in freezer with mugs and pitchers and two employee bottled drinks in reach-in cooler for beverages in front food service area. Observed a radio on top of microwave beside a pan of tortillas. New violation. Observed buildup inside light shields in dishwashing area. New violation.

Corner Cafe, 1485 Highway 34 E., Suite 7A, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 17 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw hamburger patties stacked on top of raw chicken, observed bowls of raw chicken stored next to raw hamburger meat, raw chicken and raw hamburger meat separated during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Danthony's Grill & Bar, 89 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 12 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector's comments: No certified food safety manager. New violation. Observed buildup on spray soda nozzle. Nozzle should be cleaned and free of buildup. New violation. Observed food buildup along the walls inside the microwave. New violation.

Dickey's Barbecue #827, 15 Thomas Grace Plaza, Suite 200, Sharpsburg – was inspected Aug. 11 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: Did not have employee health policy which includes a system of employee notification using a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to convey all of the required information on the DPH Guidance Form(s) to al food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. New violation. Establishment not able to demonstrate the ability to provide procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food service establishment. Great China, 1111 Lower Fayetteville Road, Suite 180, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 20 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two pans of egg rolls in reach-in freezer with no cover. Observed raw meat in deep freezer not in packaging or container. New violation. Observed utensils stored between grill and prep-table and between prep-top cooler and prep-table between use, utensils should be stored in a clean, dry location. Observed scoop handle in flour. New violation. Observed several stacks of takeout containers stored with food area facing upward above prep-top cooler and above rice cooker. Containers should be stored inverted to protect the food area from possible contamination. New violation. Observed plastic jugs repurposed into scoops used for food. Single-use items are not intended for multiple use. Handled area of scoop cannot be properly washed, rinsed or sanitized. New violation. Holiday Inn Express, 4 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 23 and received a score of 73-C. Inspector’s comments: Did not have a food safety manager. Repeat violation. Inspector’s comments: Observed boxes of fryer oil polishing powder stored with boxes and bags of breading mixture and fryer oil. New violation. Observed a box of plastic bags stored on the floor behind front food service counter. New violation. Observed sandwich boxes with food area facing upward on shelf below warmers. Inspector’s comments: Observed refuse overflowing from dumpster into the garbage enclosure, not able to close doors or lids. New violation. Observed missing and broken tiles along the bottom of the wall in dishwashing area by the handwashing sink, missing and broken tiles at the base corner of the wall entering the dishwashing area, missing tiles along the base corner of the wall by the walk-in cooler, stained ceiling in the oven area, broken and chipped tile by the oven and ice machine, food buildup on wall by dish rack and on racks in walk-in cooler. Inspector’s comments: Observed several containers of waffle batter exceeding the discard date of Aug. 9 in the walk-in cooler and reach-in cooler below prep-top in front food service area. Wing Stop, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 140, Newnan – was inspected Aug. 18 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on inside of ice machine. New violation. Observed miscellaneous equipment and utensils such as a can opener and ice scoop in plastic container on chemical storage rack. Equipment and utensils not in use should be stored separate from chemicals. New violation. Observed heavy ice buildup in walk-in freezer and small two door reach-in cooler, grease buildup below fryers, floors, walls, ceilings and hard to reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Wishbone Fried Chicken, 32 Jefferson St., Newnan – was inspected Aug. 20 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed coleslaw made Aug. 19, 2021 without date marking. New violation.
