Shaw Road speeders a concern for new middle school

The county’s newest school, Blake Bass Middle School, will officially open in a few weeks.

Those of us who live on Shaw Road and/or drive on Shaw Road have had the pleasure of watching this school being built. It looks superb! Being next to the Canongate I Golf Course makes it even more special.

The challenge we will have is with speeders on Shaw Road. While there are at least five 35 mph signs on Shaw Road, and I know that more will be added as the school zone speed limit signs are put in place, it does not deter speeding for far too many vehicles on this road.

We have witnessed many wrecks, mailboxes knocked to the ground and some near catastrophes with golfers attempting to cross the road.

I know that the Coweta County Sheriff’s department will do the best they can to keep traffic safe, both at the middle school and at Canongate Elementary School – which is almost directly across the street.

We don’t need a tragedy that can be avoided if drivers will just obey the speed limit and use caution near the schools.
