The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

American Deli Newnan #1, 1053 Highway 34 E., Suite C, Newnan – was inspected May 18 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee cup sitting in handwashing sink in the back kitchen area. Cup removed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind front food-service counter exposing the lip area to possible contamination. Cups should not be stocked past the dispenser or should be left in the plastic sleeve to protect the drinking area. Person-in-charge covered culps during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee food on top of consumer food in walk-in cooler, employee hat, shirt and bag on racks with consumer products in dry storage. All items moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. American Deli Newnan #2, 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite C, Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed an open bag of rice in dry storage. Person-in-charge moved rice to sealed container. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed scoops in the rice and sugar with handle touching the product. New violation. Observed pans wet-stacked. New violation. Observed single-use pans on dry storage stored with food surface exposed. Person-in-charge inverted them. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no test strips to test sanitizer concentration. New violation. Observed employee drinks stored on prep-top surface and above food storage. Arby's, 65 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Old date mark stickers on food pans should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing food pans. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind front food-service counter exposing the lip area to possible contamination. Cups should not be stocked past the dispenser or should be left in the plastic sleeve to protect the drinking area. Repeat violation. Observed one handwash sink faucet continuously dripping by the sandwich area. Observed stained ceiling tiles throughout the kitchen area, broken vent cover above three-compartment sink and dust buildup on vents in the dry storage area and above the handwashing sink. Observed broom and dustpan leaning against wall in kitchen area. New violation.

Avalon Health Care LLC, 120 Spring St., Newnan – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizing solution used to wipe equipment not reaching minimum strength. Person-in-charge made fresh sanitizing solution. Corrected on-site. New violation.

B's Kitchen, 226 Greenville St., Suite F, Newnan – was inspected May 18 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed shell eggs stored beside ready-to-eat deli meat and above cooked chicken wings. Observed raw ham stored above ready-to-eat food. Blimpie, 10 Franklin Road, Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 100-A.

International House of Pancakes/Unicoy Inc, 630 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected May 18 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwashing sink in grill area without hand drying provisions. Paper towels provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Jm N Nick's Bar B Q, 205 Fischer Crossing Blvd., Sharpsburg – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector's comments: Observed a bulk bin containing flour with no label. Bulk bin labeled during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed metal food pans wet-stacked. New violation. Observed dishwashing apron stored on clean dish rack, moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Knife and Stone, 30 Perry St., Newnan – was inspected May 18 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no Certified Food Safety Manager. New violation. Observed in reach-in cooler raw duck and shell eggs stored beside each other and ready-to-eat foods. Observed in prep-top cooler: raw chicken stored behind crab meat. Person-in-charge moved items to correct location. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sanitizer at dish machine and sanitizer buckets at less than minimum concentration. Person-in-charge remade sanitizer for buckets and transitioned to wash dishes at three-compartment sink. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Lepoma's Pizzeria Base of Operation, 3500 Highway 34 E., Suite 7, Sharpsburg – was inspected May 19 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: No Certified Food Safety Manager. New violation. Observed no approved chemical to clean up vomiting and diarrheal events. New violation. Need to post CFSM, Food Service permit and choking poster in dining area. Repeat violation. Observed buildup on top of dish machine and down side of can opener holder. New violation.

Lepoma's Pizzeria, 6855 Highway 16 E., Senoia – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no paper towels at handwash sink beside dough machine. Person-in-charge replaced paper towels. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no inspection report, food service permit or choking poster posted. New violation. Observed no handwashing signs posted at two handwash sinks in the kitchen. New violation.

Main Street Fudge and Ice Cream Shop, 42 Main St., Newnan – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed unapproved sanitizer being used. Person-in-charge made a bucket of correct sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no trash can with lid in employee restroom. New violation.

Moe's Southwest Grill, 1111 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 19 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwashing sink in the back of kitchen by ice machine without hand drying provisions. Paper towels provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed handwashing sink in the back of kitchen by ice machine blocked by multiple brooms and squeegees. Brooms and squeegees moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed food slicer stored on the wall with dried food debris in the grid and teeth of slicer. New violation. Sleep Inn/Main Stay, 3 Amlajack Blvd., Newnan – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not testing adequately for sanitizer. Three-compartment sink should be utilized to wash, rinse and sanitize equipment until dish machine repaired. New violation. Observed buildup on inside of silverware containers in reach-in cooler. Containers should be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized before use. New violation. Observed peroxide surface cleaner and stainless steel cleaner on bottom shelf of prep-table next to syrup and ice bucket. Observed brillo pads, wood surface conditioner and woof surface oil in cabinet with sleeves of plastic lids in self-serve area below coffee machine. New violation. Steak N Shake #610, 1249 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 19 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple sanitizer buckets at less than minimum concentration. Person-in-charge remade sanitizer buckets. Repeat violation.

Starbucks at Target T-1223, 555 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 20 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed delimer spray hanging next to clean pitchers above three-compartment sink, surface cleaner stored at handwash sink basin in front food-service area, several containers of cleaning tablets with bags of straws in cabinet in front food-service area, one sanitizer spray bottle hanging on drawer handle in front food-service area. All chemicals moved to chemical storage area during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Taco Bell #23673, 3410 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed soap dispenser not dispensing soap in food prep-area. Soap dispenser should be fixed or replaced. New violation. Observed no paper towels in towel dispenser at handwash sink next to food prep-area. New violation. Observed a box of grill cleaner and a box of release agent stored over soda refills in back storage area. New violation. Observed two chemical spray bottles with no labels in chemical storage area. Observed buildup on reach-in freezer gasket by fryer, trash can removed from underneath self-serve beverage station in dining area and trash in cabinet where trash can should be stored. Waffle House #1392, 4410 Highway 154, Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed household-grade pesticide spray in chemical storage area. All pest control must be applied by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed no thermometer in the walk-in cooler. Thermometer in cooler drawer not measuring temperature accurately, should be recalibrated or replaced. New violation. Observed low grout in dishwashing area and grill area. Observed heavy ice buildup on fan in reach-in cooler below prep-top cooler in front food-service area. New violation. Observed employee drink and cell phone on rack next to silverware caddy in front food-service area, moved during inspection. WNB Factory, 1111 Lower Fayetteville Road, Suite 1500, Newnan – was inspected May 17 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple chemical spray bottles with no labels. Beez Freeze, 75 Main St., Senoia – was inspected June 2 and received a score of 100-A.

El Charro Newnan Inc., 77 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected June 2 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed two pans of cheese dip not reaching minimum safe hot-holding temperature of 135 F in the steam well: cheese dip at 117 F and cheese dip at 108 F. Both cheese dips moved to be reheated. New violation.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 1456 Newnan Crossing Blvd., Newnan – was inspected May 27 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed three chemical spray bottles and two cans of stainless cleaner next to single-use items below front food-service counter. Observed lubricant stored with single-use items below front food-service counter, moved during inspection. Observed fryer filter powder stored next to packages of crackers and food sleeves across from fryer. Observed boxes of sanitizer wipes on shelf over plastic gloves, a box of peroxide cleaner stored on shelf with plastic wrap, jalapeno seasoning and steam table liners below vegetable wash sink. New violation. Observed bags of raw onions hanging on rack with single-use items. Unwashed produce should be stored separate from single-use items. New violation. Pizza Hut #31150, 3150 Highway 34 E., Suite 210, Newnan – was inspected June 26 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed food service permit not displayed. Watercress Newnan, 285 Summerlin Blvd., Newnan – was inspected June 2 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizing solution at three-compartment sink and sanitizing solution buckets not reaching minimum testing strength.
