The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Barberitos Southwestern Grille & Cantina, 335 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected May10 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed in reach-in cooler open raw ground turkey stored in container with open raw ground beef. Observed in walk-in cooler: raw ground turkey beside raw ground beef. Person-in-charge separated items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed buildup of mold-like substance on baffle and scoop in ice machine. New violation.

Hil Corp JH Inc DBA Bistro Hilary, 21 Barnes Street, Senoia – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed box of veal knuckles on floor of walk-in cooler. Person-in-charge moved item to correct location. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee food stored on dry storage rack. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. Burger King #9411, 415 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed balck and pink buildup in ice drop area of ice machine, pieces of onion left in food slicer in clean storage area, black buildup on drink nozzles in front lobby. Ice machine and drink nozzles should be cleaned frequently to prevent buildup. Food slicers should be clean and free of food pieces when stored in clean storage area. New violation. OBserved outside dumpster without drain plug. New violation. Observed standing water collecting in drain area in outdoor refuse area. New violation.

Culver's, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed "key drop" delivers not being monitored as per 511-6-1-.04(3)(m). New violation. Did not have employee health policy which includes a system of employee notification using a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to convey all of the required information on the DPH Guidance Form(s) to all food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. New violation. Observed handwashing sink by grill area not having hand drying provisions. Dairy Queen #40589, 1700 Highway 34 E, Newnan – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed hotdogs in the walk-in cooler and chicken bites in the reach-in cooler without date label. Informed person-in-charge that date labels must come off and all opened food should be date labeled with a new date when opened. New violation. Observed reach-in cooler without temperature measuring device. New violation. Observed a box of single-use lids on floor in dry storage area. Box was moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dust buildup along the ceiling on vents, tiles, cabinets and walls throughout the store. Stained ceiling tiles throughout the store. Broken tile along the cabinet by drive thru. Broken prep-top cooler lid by ice cream machine. New violation.

The Juicy Crab, 1120 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottle beside saltines across from ice machine. Observed multiple gallons of milk held past the use by date. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple cups and pans wet-stacked. New violation. Observed employee apron, jacket, masks and drinks stored on or above food prep-top surfaces. All items were moved to appropriate locations. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Lisa's Creperie Base of Operation, 48 Main Street, Suite 1B, Senoia – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer at less than minimum concentration in three-compartment sink and sanitizer buckets. Person-in-charge tried remaking them but mixing machine was not working properly so remade them by hand. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed items in reach-in cooler beside ice machine at higher than 41 F. Person-in-charge discarded items and turned down cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Little Caesars, 3219 Highway 34 E, Newnan – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector's comments: Observed no chemical or procedure for Norovirus. Gave owner copy of cleanup poster using bleach. Need to get bleach of sufficient strength for Norovirus. New violation. Observed chemical spray bottle hanging on rack containing pizza pans and over wing sauces. Observed bottles of hand sanitizer stored over pizza spices. Chemicals moved to chemical storage area during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed plastic food cup used for scoop in parmesan cheese at bread stick making station. Scoops must have handles. New violation. Observed dust on ceiling tiles and vent over pizza oven and buildup on wire rack used for clean dishes. New violation. Observed employee drinks and phone stored on counter used for prep and employee drink in walk-in cooler next to container of bacon pieces. New violation.

Mac's Pizza and Wings, 2005 W Highway 16, Suite 107, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed paper towels hanging on clean dish rack. Paper towels should be stored in the dispenser or in a location that is in close proximity to the handwash sink and does not have potential for contamination of foods or equipment. New violation. Observed employee wash hands in three-compartment sink. Directed employee to rewash hands in handwash sink and discussed that handwashing can only be done at a handwash sink. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed one chemical spray bottle with no label in chemical storage area. New violation. Observed fly strip hanging over mop well area. New violation. Observed two containers of expired sour cream dated April 4, 2021 and April 6, 2021. Observed expired gravy mix dated April 11, 2021. All expired foods discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. McDonald's #03149, 58 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed ice in handwashing sink in the front by cash register. Handwashing sink should only be used for handwashing. New violation. Observed handwashing sink in front by cahs register without hand drying provisions. Paper towels provided during inspection. Partners II Pizza at Summer Grove, 48 Market Square Road, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple prepared items in reach-in and walk-in coolers with no date labels. New violation. Observed jug of liquid butter stored on floor beside pizza oven. Person-in-charge moved item to correct location. Observed multiple open bags of chips, croutons and salt. New violation. Observed wet-stacked pans and wet-stacked cups. New violation. Observed multiple single-use items stored with food surface exposed. New violation. Observed employee drink stored beside prep-sink. Star Deli, 165 Temple Avenue, Newnan – was inspected May 10 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw chicken wings stored in a plastic cooler at 48.5 and 51 F. Person-in-charge stated chicken wings were placed in cooler two hours prior to inspection. Ice added to cooler during inspection to cool wings. Observed containers of raw chicken in reach-in cooler at 44.2 and 52 F. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cooked rice at 46.8 and 43.9 F covered with lid in reach-in cooler, preventing proper cooling. Reviewed cooling methods with person-in-charge. New violation. Observed hamburger thawing on bottom shelf of prep-table. Hamburger placed in reach-in cooler during inspection. Observed raw chicken wings in reach-in cooler at 52 F. Person-in-charge stated they were thawed in containers today when placed in reach-in cooler. Improper thawing method used to thaw wings, causing temperature to be above 41 F. Subway #50113, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoops with handles laying in the teriyaki chicken, grilled chicken and steak. Handles were placed sitting up. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Summer Grove Golf Club, 335 Summer Grove Parkway, Newnan – was inspected May 7 and received a score of 75-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed shelled eggs stored beside cooked biscuits, raw fish stored beside buttermilk and pasteurized eggs and raw chicken stored beside raw fish. Person-in-charge moved items to appropriate locations. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed temperatures above 41 F at prep-top cooler and cooler underneath prep-top across from grill: sliced tomato at 50 F, coleslaw at 51 F, deli turkey at 44 F, shredded cheese at 46 F, ranch dressing at 45 F and pasta salad at 46 F. Taco Mac, 301 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed clean dishes wet-stacked. Dishes should be allowed to air dry before stacking. New violation. Observed stained tiles by grill area. Repeat violation.

Wendy's #9117, 1645 Highway 29 S., Newnan – was inspected May 11 and received a score of 76-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed unwashed plastic food containers stored on sink basin of handwash sink by three-compartment sink. Food containers moved to three-compartment sink during inspection to be washed, rinsed and sanitized and to make handwash sink accessible. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed shell eggs stored over packages of cooked beef, chili mix, beans and cheese sauce in walk-in cooler. Shell eggs moved below ready-to-eat foods during inspection. Corrected on-site. Containers should be allowed to air dry completely before stacking. New violation. Observed a box of styrofoam cups stored on the floor in back storage area. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter exposing the drinking area to possible contamination. New violation. Observed buildup on racks in walk-in cooler. 714 Bar, 7 Spring St., Newnan – was inspected May 14 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed in reach-in cooler raw hamburger meat stored beside raw chicken and beside ready-to-eat foods. In walk-in cooler observed raw ground beef stored beside raw beef and raw chicken and fresh lettuce stored beside raw shrimp and raw bacon. New violation. Observed no sanitizer made up for kitchen. Great China, 1111 Lower Fayetteville Road, Suite 1800, Newnan – was inspected May 4 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following foods not reaching minimum safe cold-holding temperatures on the prep-top cooler: beef at 45 F, shrimp at 47 F, shrimp at 48 F and sprouts at 44 F. Food items placed in walk-in cooler to cool. Discussed filing the container halfway and not over-filling container to keep food cool. Corrected on-site. New violation.
