After a complete renovation of Kids Castle and the year-long closing of the splash pad because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Newnan Utilities announced a reopening celebration for Carl Miller Park on Friday, June 4 through June 11.
Children who visit the park will receive refillable Newnan Utilities Recycles water bottles and coupons for free frozen treats at Whit's Frozen Custard, while supplies last.
The Kids Castle renovation added new attractions and equipment constructed from environmentally friendly materials that are easily ADA accessible.
The renovation also included a new outdoor play space, which includes rubber surfacing for another level of safety.
The park was originally built in the late 1990s, according to Dennis McEntire, General Manager of Newnan Utilities, by community volunteers and designed by Leathers Playgrounds.
"It was truly a community effort that brought it to life, and thousands of children have enjoyed it and created memories there for over 20 years," he said. "We were lucky enough to be able to bring Leathers back to reimagine the park for today's kids while maintaining the castle spirit that makes it so unique."
Carl Miller Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
