The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) held their track and field sectionals last weekend for the top performers to qualify for the State Championships.
Newnan and East Coweta traveled to McEachern for the 7A sections, Northgate went to Starr’s Mill and Heritage and Trinity competed in Macon.
In all, five local athletes took the top spots at the sectionals in their respective events. Multi-sport star Kaylen Madrey took the top spot for the Lady Cougars in the lady’s high jump. East Coweta’s added top finishers with Logan Ray in the 800-meter dash and Aaron Fenimore in the shot put.
For Trinity Christian, Bryce Hackworth swept the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and added the pole vault win while Heritage’s Quinn Wall swept the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
For Northgate, Jordan Robertson was the top finisher when he placed second in the 3200-meter run. The Vikings 4x800 relay team, which featured Bryson Swartz, Garrett Madden, Lewis Robertson and Will Stephens also qualified for state. They bested a county record that had just been set at the region meet by eleven seconds when they finished in 8:24.
The state track meet finals will be held on Thursday through Saturday of this week. East Coweta, Newnan, Trinity Christian and The Heritage School will be at McEachern High School in Powder Springs while Northgate travels to Carrollton High School.
