The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Danthony's Grill & Bar, 89 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected March 31 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer spray bottle filled with Lysol. Person-in-charge stated they had been told by boss to use Lysol instead of approved sanitizer. She made approved sanitizer with bleach. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed opened lunch meat and bowl of pulled pork with no date label. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employees items stored on top of soda boxes. Observed employee food/drink stored with consumer food/drink in reach-in cooler. New violation.

Everything Sweet LLC, 20 Thomas Grace Annex Lane, Suite E, Sharpsburg – was inspected April 1 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector's comments: Observed no quaternary test strips for sanitizer. New violation.

Hampton Inn, 50 Hampton Way, Newnan – was inspected April 1 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Did not have employee health policy which includes a system of employee notification using a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to convey all of the required information in the DPH Guidance Form(s) to all food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. Repeat violation. Observed inspection form Sept. 14, 2020 of 100 posted and not last inspection from Dec. 17, 2020 of 87 posted. New violation.

H J Wings & Things - Sharpsburg, 20 Thomas Grace Annex Lane, Suite F, Sharpsburg – was inspected April 1 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee drump cup of ice in handwash sink. Person-in-charge cleaned and sanitized sink. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed cucumber salad stored past use by date. Person-in-charge discarded it. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge separated pans to dry. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed no chlorine test strips to test sanitizer spray bottles. New violation. Observed accumulations of food debris, garbage or dust/dirt in walk-in freezer, behind sink at dish machine and on floor in corners and beneath fryers. New violation.

Heirloom Bakery, 8861 Highway 54, Suite C, Sharpsburg – was inspected April 1 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Person-in-charge was not aware of proper cold-holding temperatures or cold-holding storage temperatures. New violation. Observed handwash at new bar area used as a wash/dump sink. Observed no working handwash sink in original area. New violation. Observed multiple food items in reach-in cooler with no date labels, including cream of chicken soup, hamburgers and macaroni. Person-in-charge discarded all items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Neighborhood Corner Cafe, 12 Bonnell St., Newnan – was inspected April 1 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed household grade pesticide spray on chemical storage shelf. All pest control must be applied by a certified pest control specialist. New violation. Observed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol stored next to beverage cooler. Alcohol moved to chemical storage during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed flour container with faded label and cornmeal container with no label. Container should be relabeled so name is visible. New violation. Observed one-half gallon of expired milk dated March 28, 2021. New violation.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, 202 Newnan Crossing, Newnan – was inspected March 31 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: No certified food safety manager. Current CFSM certification is expired. Repeat violation. Observed dish machine at bar not meeting minimum sanitizer concentration. Person-in-charge primed machine and put in order to company. Corrected on-site. New violation.

McDonald's #11437, 1425 Highway 29 S., Newnan – was inspected April 8 and received a score of 78-C. Inspector's comments: Observed employee washing wiping cloth in handwashing sink. New violation. Observed handwashing sink without handwashing cleaner by drive-thru window. Soap provided during inspection. New violation. Observed handwashing sink without drying provisions by front service area. Paper towels provided during inspection. New violation. Observed cooked eggs and raw bacon stored on/beside ach other in reach-in cooler, shelled eggs on top of mayonnaise pouch and Big Mac sauce in walk-in cooler. Items moved to correct location during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed black, cream colored buildup on ice machine baffle. Ice machine should be cleaned frequently enough to prevent buildup. New violation. Observed inspection report from Jan. 13, 2020 of a 92 posted and not most recent inspection from Jan. 20, 2021 of a 71. Repeat violation. Observed ice bucket stored in ice machine. Ice bucket moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed split and broken gaskets in the walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer. New violation. Observed mop and dustpan leaning against wall by handwashing sink by front service area, a boron leaning against oven and a broom leaning against handwashing sink by drive-thru window. New violation. Observed employee drink on food prep-surface and employee phones and drinks on food service area. New violation.

Pelicans Snowballs , 471 Highway 29 N., Newnan – was inspected April 9 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottle in storage cabinet with no label. New violation. Observed chemical spray bottle on cart with plastic flavoring bottles. Chemical spray bottle moved to lower shelf during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a box of plastic flavoring bottles on the floor in three-compartment sink area. New violation. Observed mop and mop bucket filled with mop water next to mop well. Mop bucket should be emptied and bucket and mop hung to dry after use. New violation.

Taco Criss Mexican Restaurant & Bakery, 3500 Highway 34 E., Suite 1, Sharpsburg – was inspected April 8 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw meat thawing on bottom shelf of prep-table in main kitchen area. Reviewed proper thawing methods with person-in-charge and moved meat to prep-sink to be thawed properly under cold running water. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed on eopen bag of cornmeal on dry storage rack. Foods should be properly stored after opening. New violation. Observed employee drink in disposable cup with lid and straw and a radio on shelf with tortilla press above prep-counter and employee water bottle on prep-table. Observed employee packaged food stored on paper towel holder in main kitchen area. New violation.

Urban Air Adventure Park, 231 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected April 8 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: No certified food safety manager. Repeat violation. Observed three chemical spray bottles without identification. Spray bottles labeled during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed two reach-in coolers without temperature measuring devices. Repeat violation. Observed multiple wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizing solution bucket. Cloths discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Food permit not displayed. New violation. Observed not having test strips that accurately measure the concentration in mg/L of sanitizing solutions New violation. Evans Middle School Cafeteria, 1 Evans Drive, Newnan – was inspected April 14 and received a score of 100-A.

Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation, 450 Newnan Lakes Blvd., Newnan – was inspected April 14 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed cooked deli meat stored between raw ground beef and raw pork. Deli meat moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Long John Silvers, 52 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected April 14 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no paper towels in men's restroom. New violation. Observed paper cups overstocked above dispenser on front food-service counter. New violation. Observed pipe below handwash sink dripping. New violation. Observed employee lunch and canned drink on top shelf in walk-in cooler over cups of coleslaw. New violation.

Senkaku Hibachi and Sushi, 3149 Highway 34 E., Suite 200, Newnan – was inspected April 14 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoop handles stored incorrectly with the handles touching food content in the cut mixed vegetables and broccoli. Observed a bowl stored in the cut mixed vegetables. Scoops arranged with handles not touching food content and bowel moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Holiday Inn Express, 4 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected April 15 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Did not have a food safety manager. Repeat violation. Person-in-charge cannot demonstrate in a verifiable manner that food employees are/were informed of their responsibility to report symptoms and/or illnesses. Person-in-charge should have a way to demonstrate in a verifiable manner that food employees are/were informed of their responsibility to report symptoms and/or illnesses. Repeat violation.
