The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Barberitos A Southwestern Grille & Cantina, 335 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed hot-held items below 135 F at steam table. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple pans of black beans put to cool at 1:47 p.m. with a temperature of 83 F, 77 F and 104 F at 4:38 p.m. Person-in-charge moved beans to be reheated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee foods/supplements stored beside and above consumer food beneath register. Person-in-charge moved items to appropriate locations. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Golden Corral, 605 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw bacon stored above fully cooked ham and cut onions stored beside shelled eggs in walk-in cooler. Person-in-charge moved items to correct location. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed items on bar steam table not reaching 135 F. Person-in-charge discarded items. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed time-marking stickers with no written specification of which products were with that sticker and one sticker covering multiple items. Talked with Person-in-charge about each item receiving its own time-stamp. Repeat violation.

714 Bar, 7 Spring St., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup around the drink spray nozzle. New violation. Observed walk-in cooler and reach-in cooler without temperature measuring device. New violation.

Pita By The Beirut, 326 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed four reach-in coolers missing temperature measuring devices. New violation. Observed stained ceiling tiles in front and back kitchen area, dust around ceiling vents above the reach-in cooler, reach-in freezer and prep-top cooler. New violation.

Pizza Hut #31141, 124 Jefferson St., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Did not have proper disinfectant onsite to implement their procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrhea events. New violation. Observed black and milky white buildup on ice machine baffle. New violation. Observed three sanitizing buckets not reaching minimum testing strength. New violation. Observed gentlemen's restroom without sopa and a broken soap dispenser in the ladies restroom. New violation. Observed missing and broken tiles along the bottom wall in dishwashing area by the handwash sink, missing and broken tiles at the base corner of the wall entering dishwashing area, missing tiles along the base corner of the wall by the walk-in cooler, stained ceiling in the oven area, broken and chipped tile by the oven and ice machine, food buildup on wall by dish rack and on racks in walk-in cooler. Splash guard at handwash sink next to wing saucing station needs to be moved to right side of sink to prevent water from splashing onto area where wings are prepared. New violation.

Lepoma's Pizzeria, 3500 Highway 34, Sharpsburg – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not testing adequately for sanitizer. Three-compartment sink should be utilized until dish machine is repaired. New violation. Observed batter buildup on guard of large stand mixer. New violation. Observed liquid margarine on the floor inside walk-in cooler and canola oil stored on the floor by reach-in freezer and between dish racks in main kitchen area. New violation. Need handwash sign at handwash sink next to pizza oven. New violation. Need to post Certified Food Safety Manager, food service permit and choking poster in dining area. New violation. Observed lime buildup inside dish machine. New violation. Observed several maintenance tools such as floor sweep, dust pan and vacuum leaning against wall in main kitchen area. These items should be returned to designated area and hung to store. New violation. Observed several missing and damaged ceiling tiles throughout kitchen area. Missing coving and unfinished trim on corners on walls. New violation. Observed employee canned drink in reach-in cooler next to barbecue sauce. New violation.

The Juicy Crab, 1120 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 28 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a bottle of bleach and soap stored on shelf with liquid butter. Observed stainless steel cleaner on shelf over single-use food trays. All chemicals moved to chemical storage during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed scoop stored in cajun seasoning with handle laying in seasoning. Scoop moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed maintenance tools on rack over stainless bowls. Bowls moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed soiled apron hanging on rack with dry goods. New violation.

American Deli Newnan #2, 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite C, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector's comments: Observed hamburgers cooked this morning at 10:15 a.m. at 63 F. Person-in-charge discarded hamburgers. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee shirt stored on top of box of oil and purses stored above single-serve packets of seasoning. Person-in-charge moved items to correct location. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Arby's, 65 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on soda nozzles in the drive-thru area, on deflector shield of ice machine and on hand slicer on clean dish rack. Slicer returned to three-compartment sink area during inspection to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized. Old date mark stickers on food pans should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing food pans. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter, exposing the lip area to possible contamination. Cups should not be stocked past the dispenser or should be left in the plastic sleeve to protect the drinking area. New violation. Observed sauce on wall behind dry storage rack across from mop well. Observed one handwash sink faucet continuously dripping. New violation. Observed employee lunch on top shelf in walk-in cooler over cheeses. New violation.

J & T Hospitalities Inc DBA HJ Wings & Things Senoia, 10 W Village Drive, Senoia – was inspected Feb. 1 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Did not have response procedures for vomiting and diarrhea events. Person-in-charge stated it was used during the weekend and that another would be ordered. New violation. Observed mechanical warewashing equipment not testing at minimum sanitizing strength. Person-in-charge was able to fix the issue and got it to test during inspection. Corrected on-site. Pizza Hut #31150, 3150 Highway 34, Suite 210, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 1 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitize buckets not testing adequately for sanitizer. New violation. Observed one open bag of cinnamon sugar rolled down on rack below prep-counter in main kitchen area. Ingredients should be sealed after opening to prevent contamination. New violation. Observed dust and black mold-like spotting on ceiling tiles between prep-cooler and pizza oven, outside walk-in cooler and above dishwashing area. Buildup on walls behind three-compartment sink, outside of walk-in freezer behind rack with pizza pans, behind food prep-station. Exposed wood and wiring behind pan rack next to back door. Floors, walls, ceilings and hard-to-reach areas should be cleaned frequently to prevent accumulation. Buildup on wire racks in proofing cabinet, beside fryer and at the end of pizza oven. Starbucks #28771, 3151 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed handwash sink by drive-thru without hand drying provisions. Person-in-charge replaced paper towels during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed dust on ceiling tiles over dishwashing area, dust on ceiling tiles, upper wall and corner and vent by office/dry storage area. New violation.

Taco Bell #23673, 3410 Highway 34 E., Sharpsburg – was inspected Feb. 1 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed TCS foods in steam table not at adequate temperature for hot holding such as steak at 119 F, chicken at 113 F, refried beans at 116 F, black beans at 95 F and rice at 104 F. Person-in-charge stated foods had been on the line for two hours. All foods either discarded or placed in bags to be reheated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a broom and dust pan leaning next to handwash sink and a broom stored next to dry storage rack. Maintenance tools should be returned to designated storage area and hung to store after use. Viet's Cuisine, 30 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine not testing for sanitizer. Three-compartment sink should be utilized to properly wash, rinse and sanitize dishes until repaired. New violation. Observed several sugar and flour storage bins with no label. New violation. Observed open bulk bags of sugar and rice in dry storage area. Observed a bag of uncut carrots stored on the floor. New violation. No inspection report posted. New violation. Waffle House #1392, 4410 Highway 154, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 1 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed syrup dispenser in handwash sink basin in dishwashing area. Syrup dispenser moved to dishwashing area during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee wash hands at dish rinsing faucet in dishwashing area. Hands should only be washed at designated handwash sinks. New violation. Observed black buildup on wall and deflector shield of ice machine. B's Kitchen, 226 Greenville St., Suite F, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no probe thermometer for measuring temperatures of food. New violation. Observed no chlorine or quaternary test strips for dish machine and sanitizer, respectively. New violation. Observed employee apron hung from dry storage rack. No. 1 Buffet, 1732 E. Newnan Crossing, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 2 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw chicken stored above cheese wontons and raw shrimp stored above sauces in reach-in coolers. Observed raw chicken stored above cans of oranges and raw seafood stored above buckets of cut vegetables in walk-in cooler. Person-in-charge moved item to correct location. Corrected on-site. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following foods in the prep-top cooler not reaching minimum safe cold-holding temperatures: quinoa at 48 F, hard boiled egg at 45 F, corn and bean mix at 50 F and diced cucumber at 50 F. Food items placed in ice bath to cool down. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed a box of cut and bagged broccoli past use-by date of Jan. 31, 2021, two bags of spinach past use-by date of Jan. 30, 2021 and egg wash past expiration date of Sept. 28, 2020. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following food items not reaching minimum safe cold-holding temperatures: in the reach-in cooler, macaroni and cheese at 54 F and 43 F; in the prep-top cooler, chicken at 49 F and 50 F. All items discarded. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed missing ceiling tiles above office area and missing wall tile by food prep-sinks. New violation.

Chapultepec Mexican Restaurant, 105 Village Circle, Suite A and B, Senoia – was inspected Feb. 10 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed TCS foods stored in prep-top cooler above proper cold-holding temperature of 41 F such as diced tomato at 44 F, shredded lettuce at 55 F, sour cream at 52.5 F, pico de gallo at 45 F, guacamole at 43.5 F, raw beef at 44 F and raw chicken at 43 F. Person-in-charge stated she is working on getting cooler repaired and foods are not held in cooler longer than four hours. Discussed needing to ice bath foods or placing food on time to ensure it is used or discarded after four hours. New violation. Observed broom and dustpan leaning against handwash sink in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed cracked floor tiles in walk-in freezer and on outside of walk-in cooler door. Arby's RTM, 947 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 10 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Did not have employee health policy which includes a system of employee notification using a combination of training signs, pocket cards or other means to convey all of the required information on the Department of Public Health Guidance Form(s) to all food employees and conditional employees. A signed acknowledgement by the employee should be part of any employee health policy. Repeat violation. Observed dishwasher not reaching minimum sanitizing testing strength. Discussed using the three-compartment sink to sanitize dishes. New violation. Observed black buildup on drink nozzles in drive-thru. Nozzles should be cleaned frequently to avoid buildup. Observed food cartons stored above warmer on prep-line stored with food area facing upward, exposing the food area to possible contamination. Food cartons should be stored inverted. New violation. Inspector’s comments: Observed spoiled cucumbers not separated from non-spoiled cucumbers in walk-in cooler. Cucumbers removed during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Steak N Shake #610, 1249 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Feb. 3 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bags of sugar and sprinkles. Person-in-charge sealed items.
