The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

Home 2 Suites by Hilton, 4051 McIntosh Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 19 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed broom and dustpan leaning against corner. Person-in-Charge moved broom and dustpan to appropriate place. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee drink on food prep surface. Person-in-charge discarded drink during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Einstein Bros Bagels, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 100, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 19 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed the following food not reaching minimum safe cold holding temperatures: in the reach in cooler, fish at 44 F, deli turkey at 45 F, sliced tomatoes at 42 F. Food was not in reach-in cooler for longer than 30 minutes and was placed back into walk-in cooler. In the prep top cooler: chorizo at 46 F, turkey sausage at 46 F, deli ham at 46 F, sliced tomatoes at 44 F, and fish at 49 F. Food was discarded. New violation.

Hungry Howie's Pizza Store 2415, 390 Bullsboro Drive, Unit 8, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 19 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dust on ceiling air vents. New violation.

Maguire's Family & Friends, 42 Main St., Senoia – was inspected Jan. 19 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed stainless steel sponge in handwashing sink beside grill/fryer. Observed ice dumped in handwash sink at bar. Observed other handwash sink at bar covered with cloth. New violation. Observed temperatures above 41 F in small prep-top unit, including coleslaw at 47 F and diced tomatoes at 46 F. Person-in-charge added ice to bring temperatures down. Corrected on-site. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw shelled eggs stored beside raw salmon and tiramisu cake in reach-in cooler in storage area. Person-in-charge moved items to appropriate location. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed no probe thermometer to measure temperature of cooked foods. Repeat violation. Observed employees behind the counter without hair restraints. Hair should be restrained. Inspector's comments: Observed unlabeled chemical spray bottles stored on top of box of mayonnaise and beside bags of flour. Person-in-charge labeled bottle and moved it to correct location. Inspector’s comments: Observed shelled eggs and raw bacon stored on/beside ready to eat sliced cheese and Canadian bacon in cooler drawers. Person-in-charge moved items to correct location. Summer Grove Golf Club, 335 Summer Grove Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 15 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed splits and ice forming on gaskets in reach-in freezer. New violation.

Subway #15918, 3150 Highway 34 E., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 21 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed knife solution behind front food service counter not testing adequately for sanitizer. Person-in-charge stated solution is changed every two hours. New sanitizer made during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. No test strips for chlorine sanitizer solution used for cleaning utensils in front food service area. New violation. Chick-Fil-A Newnan Crossing, 2090 Newnan Crossing Blvd. E., Newnan – was inspected Jan. 21 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed degreaser hanging on dish drying rack, moved to chemical storage rack during inspection. Observed sanitizer spray stored next to tea urns in front food service area. Sanitizer moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sugar scoop in drive-thru area stored in sugar with handle touching content. Handles should be stored above the content. Chylacas Mexican Restaurant, 3154 Highway 34 E., Suites 205 and 206, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 21 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed expired Certified Food Safety Manager. New violation. Observed three-compartment sink setup incorrectly and sanitizer basin not testing adequately for sanitizer. Inspector’s comments: Observed low grout and chipped tiles near fryers in main kitchen area, food debris on the walk-in cooler and along the bottom of wall by door. Observed gap between tile and wall in the walk-in cooler by the door and along the back of the wall. New violation.

La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant, 222 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Building 100, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 22 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer at three-compartment sink at less than minimum concentration. Person-in-charge made new sanitizer. Corrected on-site. New violation.
