How to truly make a community safer

The headline stated Atlanta’s murder rate continues rising.

City Councilman Howard Shook said, “Here, in descending order, are the three things we need to begin (to turn this around): 1). Leadership; 2). Some leadership; 3). Any leadership.”

This suggestion is equally applicable to Portland, Chicago, Seattle, New York, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, etc., etc. …

Mayor Bottoms appeared to excuse this by saying many cities are grappling with an increase in violent crime.

So? It is a non sequitur that because it happens elsewhere it should also happen in Atlanta.

It’s noteworthy that nearly all of the crime-plagued cities are run by Democrats espousing a “defund the police” mantra along with social engineering (understanding). Meanwhile, citizens are victims of liberal progressives seeking power at any cost. Moreover, the cost is increasingly being paid by innocent victims.

The liberal mindset thinks the way to combat this is with Victim Compensation Committees, Victim Rights Laws and Family Violence Training. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent crime than follow-up afterward?

Mayor Bottoms said she is “open to ideas others may have to better address the problem.”

Here’s a radical idea: Support your police department and stop assuming anything that happens is de facto the fault of law enforcement officers! Air revolving PSAs to tell the public the way to fight injustice is in court, not on the street. Support DA’s who aggressively prosecute offenders and pass laws with increasingly harsh penalties for crimes (as deterrents).

Make our home a safe place for everyone and “begin leadership.”
