As the Georgia High School softball season heads into the state playoff tournament, there is little doubt about the effect Coweta County schools have on the GHSA landscape.
Part of that success can be attributable to the county's investment in the younger players through the recreational departments.
Before the Wednesday night second-round region playoff game between the 7th ranked Newnan Lady Cougars and the top-ranked East Coweta Lady Indians, the 12U Sharpsburg Lady Raiders were recognized.
Under the leadership of coaches Jamie Burge, Andy Moss and Jiap Odum, the Lady Raiders won the 2020 Sharpsburg Regional Softball Association Fastpitch championship in the 12-and-under division.
Coach Moss shared, “We would like to thank a number of people who helped make this championship possible. Coaches Burge, Jason Barnes and Justus Combs played an enormous part of the girls’ development, as many girls played for the 10U Raiders last year. Coaches Odum and Alexandria Hupp brought a lot of expertise and helped in this season’s development.”
On Wednesday, the Raiders watched the Lady Indian victory at East Coweta Head Coach Franklin DeLoach's invitation. These young ladies will be battling on the same East Coweta field for future region championships and banners in the years to come.
