The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year. Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.
Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks for compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Observed package macaroni and cheese thawing and buckets of water on the floor and mop well area. Observed boxes of single use items stored on the floor and dining area. Observed hooks installed for maintenance tools and main kitchen area on ends of racks containing condiments and single use items. Observed one apron hanging on dish drawing rack next to the dish machine.
Chylaca's Mexican Restaurant, 3154 Highway 34 E., inspected Oct. 5, 2020, received a score of 83-B. Observed employee dump a drink in hand wash sink next to soda dispenser. Hand wash skink should only be used for hand washing. Observed no paper towels at the bar area for hand washing. Observed black build up on soda nozzle and bar area. Observed food particles inside microwaves in the main kitchen area. Observed sanitizer base in a three compartment sink not testing adequately for sanitizer. Observed box of tortillas and boxes of cooking oil stored on shelf with bleach. Observed several chemical spray bottles hanging over buckets of lard. Observed soda refill stored with chemicals on lower shelf and prep area, soda box moved during inspection. Observed several chemical spray bottles hanging on pipe with no label, chemicals labeled during inspection. Observed two bottles of household grade pesticide spray on the lower shelf of the prep table. All pest control must be applied by certified pest control specialists. Observed several stained ceiling tiles, dust buildup on ceiling kitchen area, paint chipping on wall hand wash sink by soda fountain.

Leaf and Bean Newnan, 22 W. Court Square, inspected Oct. 1, 2020, received a score of 81-B. Observed shelled eggs stored next cheese in the region cooler in the kitchen. Observed shelled eggs stored next to ready to eat deli turkey and reach-in cooler and storage room. Observed no internal thermometers and reach-in coolers. Observed no thermometer to check food temperatures. Observed employees behind the counter without hair restraints. Hair should be restrained. Observed single-use cup being used as a scoop and a sugar bin.
Lepoma's Pizzeria, 3500 Highway 34 E., Sharpsburg, inspected Oct. 6, 2020, received a score of 87-B. Observed old date mark stickers and sticker residue on outside of food containers and lids. Observed debris on insides of new equipment not currently in use. Equipment should be properly cleaned and sanitized before it is used to store food. Observed dish machine not testing adequately for sanitizer. Three compartment sinks should be utilized until this machine is serviced. Observed food stored on bottom of prep topic exceeding it's date marking such as mozzarella cheese 9/14, mushrooms 9/29, olives 9/17, meatballs 9/17, roasted red peppers 9/29. Observed no way to measure internal temperature of the dish machine.

Observed hot shredded pork below 135 F in a warmer drawer. Observed chemicals stored above single use cups on the outside dry storage rack and on the storage rack beside the register.

No food service permit posted or choking poster. Wrong inspection report posted and need to post inspection report in the drive-thru window. Observed employee aprons hanging and employee restroom. Aprons should be stored in a clean location where they are not exposed to contamination. Observed no hot water at hand wash sink next to prep top cooler. Observed employee bottle drinks stored on a container of cheese and walk-in cooler, bottle drinks stored on top of unfolded pizza boxes in the rear of the kitchen and bottle drink on the counter next to thermometers in the front food service area.
