Newnan resident Virginia Elliott celebrated her 100th birthday Sept. 23 with a socially distant surprise birthday party.
Members of First Baptist Church Newnan, where Elliott is one of the oldest members, dropped by to wish her a happy birthday.
Elliott worked at the Newnan Hospital for 55 years and retired when she was 93. She was the operating room supervisor for many years, and in her last few years at the hospital, worked in the medical records department.
Jean Thomas helped organize the celebration for Elliott. While Thomas and Elliott are both members at FBC Newnan, Thomas said she first got to know Elliott through working at the hospital together.
“She’s just a precious lady,” Thomas said.
When asked what the secret to living 100 years is, Elliott said she doesn’t have a secret.
“I take each day as it comes,” Elliott said. “The Lord’s been good to me.”
