The Newnan Lady Cougars softball team went on the road Wednesday afternoon to tackle one of the top teams from Class 5A, the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers.

The Lady Cougars put in a short night, they only needed five innings to defeat Starr’s Mill 9-1.

Senior catcher Reagan London hit a two-run homer in the first inning that sent the Lady Cougars on their way. The added six additional runs in the second inning and never looked back.

Freshman Maddie Veal went the distance for the win, she struck out nine and only gave up one earned run. She also got two hits at the plate.

In addition to Veal, London, Alex Williams and Gracie Smith each had two hits.

The win improved Newnan to 14-5-1 on the season which is only four short of their win total from last season. They’ll continue play next week with games against Woodward Academy on Monday at home, LaGrange on Wednesday at home, and Bremen on Thursday on the road.
