The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

Star Deli, 165 Temple Ave., was inspected July 27, 2020 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed no date label on cooked chicken or thawed salmon. Observed open bags of flour, sugar, breading, etc. Bag should be sealed after opening or moved to container with lid. Observed single gloves stored in breading. Gloves are not reusable and should be discarded after initial use. Observed cardboard being used underneath sauces and utensils and in place of ceiling tiles. Person in charge stated the ceiling tile was scheduled to be repaired and discarded cardboard on racks. Corrected on-site. Observed buildup on the grill and fryer area and in hard-to-reach area; these areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Observed employee food, drinks and articles of clothing throughout the back kitchen area. All personal items should be stored separate from consumer goods and food prep area. Repeat violation.

Subway, 3150 Highway 34 E., was inspected July 27 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed several bags of chips past expiration date; PIC removed chips from service. Observed one unopened bag of shredded lettuce in reach-in cooler exceeding use by date of 7-22; removed from service. Corrected on-site. Observed broom and dust pan leaning in corner next to bread cabinet; maintenance tools should be placed in designated storage area after use. Observed employee water bottle and phone on prep counter next to slicer.

Taco Mac, 301 Newnan Crossing Bypass, was inspected July 23 and received an inspection score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed clean dishes wet stacked. Dishes should be allowed to air dry before stacking. Observed employee bag on shelf next to hand wash sink; item was relocated during inspection.

The Daily, 90 Valley North Drive, was inspected July 25 received a score of 100-A. No comments.

The Frigid Frog of West Georgia, 207 Rustica Drive, was inspected July 24 and received a score of 100-A. No comments.

Wendy’s, 1645 Highway 29 S., was inspected July 29 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed black and pink buildup in ice machine. Ice machine should be cleaned frequently to prevent buildup. Observed hamburger patties at 50.9 degrees. PIC discarded hamburger patties. Observed times for time as a public health control foods missing. Times were added during inspection. Corrected on-site.

Burger King, 415 Bullsboro Drive, was inspected Aug. 6 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed empty body fluid cleanup kit. PIC called and ordered more. Observed employee drinks above and around consumer food and walk-in cooler. PIC discarded drinks.

Contemporary Catering, 25 Herring Road, was inspected Aug. 4 and received a score of 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed reach-in cooler gaskets on two cooler doors with splits, and splits in walk-in cooler gasket. One walk-in cooler not in use and at a temperature of 50 F, may require maintenance before use. Observed one employee water bottle in reach-in cooler and one energy drink in reach-in freezer. No food was prepped during inspection.

Culver’s, 311 Newnan Crossing Bypass, was inspected Aug. 5 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried tomato skin on guard of manual slicer stored on a clean dish rack; slicer returned to dishwashing area during inspection to be rewashed, rinsed and sanitized. Observed two chemical spray bottles stores next to single-use items below front food service counter. Spray bottles moved to chemical area during inspection. Observed a plastic cup being used as a scoop in container of seasoning and scoop handles lying in Oreos; handle should be positioned above the content. Observed single-use takeout container stored on shelf underneath food window in main kitchen with the food area facing upward; container should be inverted to protect the food area. Observed split gasket on one reach-in cooler door. Observed buildup inside utensil drawers across from dish machine. Observed employee drinks and disposable cups, some with lids and straws some without, stored on shelf with pecans and syrups.

Dairy Queen, 1700 Highway 34 E., was inspected Aug. 6 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a container of tomatoes in the reach-in cooler at 53 F and tomatoes on the prep line at 46 F. PIC stated tomatoes were cut yesterday. Tomatoes discarded during inspection. Observed buildup on top of hot hold unit next to fryers. Observed one light shield missing in food prep area. Observed two aprons hanging on the rack containing ice cream sauces and toppings.

Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins, 12 Bailey Station, was inspected Aug. 3 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bag of cone mix on shelf, PIC moved back to container with lid. Observed no inspection report posted on drive-thru window. Observed no choking poster posted in lobby. Observed ice cream scoop with handle touching ice. PIC moved scoop out of bin. Repeat violation. Observed employee purse, phone and jacket stored on or beside consumer food products. PIC moved all items to correct location.

Eat Thai, 33 E. Broad St., was inspected Aug. 4 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed spray bottles of sanitizer on the counter with packaged foods and plates in main kitchen area. Chemicals should be stored in a designated chemical storage area away from all food items. Spray bottle moved to chemical storage during inspection. Observed one bottle of home-use pesticide underneath the sink in main kitchen; all pest control must be applied by a certified pest control specialist. Observed heavy grease buildup on side of stove next to fryers. Observed heavy grease buildup on hood over fryers in main kitchen area; hood should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Observed employee personal items stored in main kitchen area, such as personal cups and plates stored on dish-drying rack and on shelf with restaurant plates. Observed one employee drink in a disposable cup with lid and straw on counter in main kitchen area.

Elegant Expressions Catering, 253 Hendrix Road, was inspected Aug. 6 and received a score of 100-A. No comments; no food was prepped during inspection.

Alamo Jacks/Fabiano’s Pizzeria, 19 W. Court Square, was inspected July 30 and received a score of 89-B inspector’s comments: Observed buildup of black mold-like substance in ice machine. These items should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Repeat violation. Observed chemical spray bottles hung facing single servings of consumer food. PIC moved chemical bottles to correct location. Observed ice scoop with handle in ice. Observed a bowl being used as a scoop for tater tots. PIC removed both scoops.

Bistro Hilary, 21 Barnes St., Senoia was inspected July 31 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed gallon of milk with expiration date of July 29. PIC discarded milk.

Hungry Howie’s pizza, 390 Bullsboro Drive, was inspected Aug. 3 and received a score of 100-A. No comments.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 398 Bullsboro Drive, was inspected July 30 and received a score of 100-A. No comments.
