The Fayette, Henry and Newnan Piedmont hospitals have all earned global recognition from Newsweek in the publication’s recently released World’s Best Maternity Hospitals list for 2020.
Newsweek partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of U.S. health care facilities, to develop a list of 231 of the world’s best maternity hospitals, selecting hospitals in 36 states, according to a press release from Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
A group of national experts advised Leapfrog on standards for excellence in maternity care, including achieving low rates of C-section, episiotomy and early elective deliveries, and following crucial protocols to protect mothers and babies. Though these are standards aligned with medical research and best practices, not all hospitals achieve them.
“Piedmont Newnan is proud of this recognition. This global ranking is a reflection of our relentless commitment to putting our patients first and providing the best maternity care to the people in our community,” said Ashley Maxwell, director of women’s services at PNH in the release.
The facilities cited by Newsweek as Best Maternity Hospitals 2020 are an elite group demonstrating excellence in maternity care, according to the release.
“This World’s Best Maternity Hospitals list is influenced by important quality and safety measures,” Maxwell said. “I’m very proud of the women’s services team at Piedmont Newnan. Each day, our staff goes above and beyond to ensure our patients receive high-quality, patient-centered care, and rankings like this (make) clear our hard work and dedication.”
