Coweta reports 3 COVID-19 deaths in two days

(Aug. 1, 2020) – Coweta County reported three new COVID-19 deaths in two days, bringing the total number of virus-related fatalities to 21, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The death of a 90-year-old man was reported by the DPH on Friday, and the deaths of a second 90-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were reported Saturday. The woman and one man reportedly had no chronic health conditions, and it was unknown whether the second man had chronic health conditions.

Coweta reported 620 new cases of COVID-19 in July, more than two and a half times the number of new cases reported in June. The total number of cases rose by to 1,313 Saturday, up from 1,275 on Thursday according to the DPH.

Hospitalizations rose to 92 (+5) and the case rate per 100,000 Cowetans rose to 863.81 (+25), according to the DPH.

Across Georgia, the DPH reported 190,012 (+7,726) cases Saturday, and 3,825 deaths (+154). The DPH also reported a total of 18,995 hospitalizations (+692) since the crisis began and 3,475 (+121) admissions to intensive care units.

A total of 1,596,085 molecular tests for active infections have been performed at drive-thru sites and facilities statewide, with a 10.9 percent positive* rate. A total of 224,875 serology tests for antibodies from previous infections have been performed statewide, with a 6.4 percent positive rate.
