The Tommy Thompson Senior Center in Newnan is seeking letters of love for homebound Coweta County seniors.

Leila Heptinstall with the center said she came up with the idea because she thought it would brighten up a senior’s day.

“We’re asking for kind, handwritten letters to mail to seniors,” Heptinstall said. “Take five minutes and write a letter of love to a stranger. Isolation creates feelings of loneliness, which can lead to poorer physical health and quality of life. By writing a letter, you can do your part to embrace our elders during these scary, uncertain times.”

Heptinstall said the letters can be a friendly hello or encouraging message. Letters can be sent to the Tommy Thompson Senior Center at 29 Hospital Road, Newnan, GA 30263.

Staff will distribute them out to the seniors. Currently, there are no plans for reopening the center, but staff is available by phone.

“We are here at the Tommy Thompson Center Monday through Friday for any questions or concerns that they may have or if they just want to talk,” she said.

Heptinstall said the center also mails out a monthly newsletter that features crossword puzzles, recipes, tips and updated information.

“We’re in this together. Let’s lift each other up,” Heptinstall said.
