Coweta COVID-19 cases rise to 1,056

(July 22, 2020) – Coweta County’s COVID-19 infections rose to 1,056 Wednesday, up from 1,042 on Tuesday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Hospitalizations rose to 72 and the case rate per 100,000 Cowetans rose to 685.52 (+15.13), according to the DPH. Seventeen people have died of COVID-19 in Coweta County.

Across Georgia, the DPH reported 152,302 cases Wednesday, up 3,314 from Monday, and 3,335 deaths (+81). The DPH also reported a total of 15,922 hospitalizations (+428) since the crisis began and 2,967 (+63) admissions to intensive care units.

A total of 1,316,844 molecular tests for active infections have been performed at drive-thru sites and facilities statewide, with a 10.5 percent positive* rate. A total of 203,453 serology tests for antibodies from previous infections have been performed statewide, with a 5.9 percent positive rate.

*The number of positive tests is not the same as the number of cases. Some tests may not be reported to DPH through electronic laboratory reporting, and numbers may include multiple tests performed on the same individual.

The disease in the U.S. and worldwide

COVID–19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS–CoV–2, which was identified after health officials reported a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, to the World Health Organization in late 2019.
