Coweta COVID-19 cases climb to 1,136

The Newnan Times-Herald

(July 24, 2020) – Coweta County’s COVID-19 infections rose to 1,136 Friday, up from 1,1104 on Thursday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Hospitalizations rose to 80 (+4) and the case rate per 100,000 Cowetans rose to 747.36 (+21.05), according to the DPH. Seventeen people have died of COVID-19 in Coweta County.

Across Georgia, the DPH reported 161,401 cases Friday, up 4,813 from Thursday, and 3,442 deaths (+82). The DPH also reported a total of 16,752 hospitalizations (+399) since the crisis began and 3,119 (+85) admissions to intensive care units.

A total of 1,382,444 molecular tests for active infections have been performed at drive-thru sites and facilities statewide, with a 10.6 percent positive* rate. A total of 208,597 serology tests for antibodies from previous infections have been performed statewide, with a 6 percent positive rate.

*The number of positive tests is not the same as the number of cases. Some tests may not be reported to DPH through electronic laboratory reporting, and numbers may include multiple tests performed on the same individual.

The disease in the U.S. and worldwide
