Damaged concrete on Interstate 85 from the Fulton County line to south of Palmetto Tyrone Road will be repaired under a contract awarded this month.

The concrete and shoulder rehabilitation project will run for 3 miles, according to Penny Brooks, regional spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The $2.3 million contract was awarded to Causie Contracting of Michigan and work is expected to be complete by the end of spring 2021.

The contractor will cut out damaged concrete slabs, remove them and then pour new concrete to fill the spaces, Brooks said.

There’s no start date for the project yet, as a preconstruction meeting hasn’t yet been held, Brooks said.

GDOT has also awarded a contract to rehabilitate bridges on I-85 in Troup County. The $1.36 million contract was awarded to S&D Industrial Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and the work is expected to be complete by the end of spring 2021.
