Rotary cancels annual 4th of July fireworks

The Newnan Times-Herald

The Newnan Rotary Club has decided to cancel its annual 4th of July fireworks show at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium.

The Rotary Club has been watching the impact of COVID-19 and restrictions on mass gatherings closely, according to Rotary President-Elect Garnet Reynolds

By July 4, Reynolds said the club isn’t sure what restrictions will be in place for concessions, public restrooms, social distancing, volunteer safety and other concerns when holding an event. Due to commitments with the club's fireworks vendor, Reynolds said that a decision had to be made Friday, May 15.

Rotary expects there will be numerous restrictions still in place, and for that reason, they decided to cancel the event for 2020.

“This is not the decision we hoped for, and we know that many in our community will be disappointed,” Reynolds said.

The Newnan Rotary Club has hosted the 4th of July fireworks for 30 years.
