The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m., therefore inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks for compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

AMC — 87 Newnan Station Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 2, 2020 and received a 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hot water at the hand-wash sink. Hot water at the hand-wash sink must reach a minimum of 100 F. Observed quaternary sanitizer at three-compartment sink at less than minimum concentration. Informed person-in-charge that until the auto mixer of sanitizer could be fixed, they would need to mix it themselves to ensure proper concentration. Observed black mold-like buildup in ice machine. Equipment should be cleaned frequently enough to prevent buildup.

American Deli — 44 Bullsboro Drive, Suite C, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 19, 2020 and received a 99-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed a floor scrubber stored next to hand-wash sink across from three-compartment sink. Maintenance tools should be returned to designated storage area after use. Observed buildup on wire shelf across from fryers. Observed employee items such as a cup and radio stored on top of reach-in cooler containing sauce cups.

Arby’s — 65 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 14, 2020 and received a 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on deflector shield of ice machine and on one drink nozzle at self serve drink station. Observed ice scoop stored in metal container with unclear water in drive-thru area. Observed date mark sticker on outside of metal food containers on drying rack and inside walk in cooler; sticker should be removed prior to washing, rinsing and sanitizing dishes. Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter, plastic sleeves on cups pushed down; sleeve should be as a high as the first cup to protect the lip area. Observed pipe dripping underneath hand-wash sink in sandwich prep area. Observed water marks on ceiling tiles above the front food service counter. Observed brooms and dustpans stored next to hand-wash sink in sandwich making area, next to soda boxes in back storage area. Observed pipe dripping underneath hand-wash sink in sandwich prep area, two hand-wash sink faucets constantly running water in prep area and dishwashing area. Observed water marks on ceiling tiles above the front food service counter, drink station and dining area, and in dining area. observed brooms and dustpan stored next to hand wash-sink and sandwich-making area, next to soda boxes and back storage area, and one dustpan in corner of kitchen area. Observed employee bookbag stored on rack with boxes of gloves and back storage area and open sleeve on cookies and box with sauce packets and drive-thru are. Cookies discarded during inspection. Observed an employee canned drink stored in reach in cooler in front food service area. Observed two bottles of lotion, one in drive-thru area and one on top of cooler drawers and food service area.

Avalon Healthcare, LLC — 120 Spring St., Newnan — was inspected Feb. 18, 2020 and received a 95-A. Inspector’s comments: observed unopened container of buttermilk and walk-in cooler with use-by date of 2-16-2020. Person-in-charge discarded item. Observed back storage room with condensation on walls and dripping from attic access door. Observed employee drinks and unopened food being stored on prep-top table. Observed employee purse and hat on top of items and dry storage. Person-in-charge moved all items to appropriate locations.

Benton House of Newnan Lakes — 25 Newnan Lakes Blvd., Newnan — was inspected Feb. 13, 2020 and received 95-A. Inspector’s comments: observed dishwasher not reaching a high enough temperature to properly sanitize dishes. Observed food residue buildup on can opener; can opener was moved to be washed. Observed split gaskets on reach in cooler. Gasket should be in good repair. Did not have a way to measure dishwashing temperature.

Blimpie — 10 Franklin Road, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 20, 2020 and received a 99-A. Inspector’s comments: observed employee drink and employee phone on prep talk table. Person- in-charge moved items to appropriate location.

Brookdale Newnan — 355 Millard Farmer Industrial Blvd., Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 17, 2020 and received a 91-A. Inspector's comments: found lettuce, tuna salad, meatballs, pumpkin pie, green peas and sliced peaches past disposal date mark. Person-in-charge threw them away. Observed open bag of sugar; that should be taped or sealed after opened.

China Express — 50 Bullsboro Drive, Suite H 44, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 19, 2020 and received a 77-C. Inspector’s comments: observed employee dumping liquid items into front hand wash sink. Observed in walk-in cooler a pan of raw chicken over beef, a pan of raw pork over mixed vegetables, and a pan of raw pork over cream cheese. Observed raw shelled eggs stored behind mixed vegetables and prep-top cooler. Person-in-charge moved items into correct storage order. Observed bag of sugar, a bag of rice and a bag of noodles open and subject to contamination in main kitchen storage. Person-in-charge sealed all bags. Observed disposable cups without handle stored in foods and being used to dispense food. Person-in-charge threw items away. Observed cardboard lining shelf in walking cooler. Person-in-charge removed cardboard. Observed cans being used to store food in reach-in and walk-in coolers. Observed clean cans being used to store food in dry storage. Person-in-charge had employee move items to appropriate containers. Observed employee jacket stored above consumer food on a shelf in dry storage. Employee move jacket to appropriate location.

Creamistry — 318 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Suite B, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 14, 2020 and received a 90-A. Inspector's comments: Observed one chemical spray bottle hanging at hand-wash sink in main kitchen area; moved during inspection. Observed oven cleaner and wire brushes stored in cabinet with toppings below back counter in front food service area. Cleaner and supplies moved during inspection. Observed one chemical spray bottle with no label, instructed person-in-charge to label bottle during inspection. Observed two bottles of oil being used as a doorstop in doorway to front food service area. Open bag of cocoa powder stored on bottom rack behind bulk bins in prep area, open marshmallows and milk-free powder base in reach-in cooler. Candy pieces stored on same surface as eggs and bacon; moved to upper shelf during inspection. Observed spoon stored in cake pieces with the handle in the content. Handle should be stored above the content. Observed whisks stored in plastic containers handle down, whisk should be stored inverted to protect the surface that will be used to mix food. observed peeling tape in between sink basins at three-compartment sink. Tape is not considered a washable surface and should be removed. Observed employee food items and utensils inside reach-in coolers and prep area stored on boxes of food and on shelf containing consumer foods; all foods move during inspection. Discussed with-person in-charge how employee personal items should be stored.

Depot Grill at Junction Lanes Family Entertainment — 141 Newnan Station Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 10, 2020 and received a 91-A. Inspector's comments: Observed diced ham in hand-wash sink. Informed person-in-charge that hand-wash sinks must only be used for hand washing. Observed hand-wash sink with water temperature below 100 F. Observed no test strips to test sanitizer concentration. Observed employee apron stored with single-service item. Person in charge moved them to hooks on wall. Observed multiple live roaches and some dead roaches. Person in charge showed pest control records from Feb. 4, 2020 for treatment of pests.

Dixie Dogz Cafe — 6549 Highway 54A, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 20, 2020 and received a 91-A. Inspectors comments: observed pulled pork, half gallon of milk and tomato sauce stored past their use-by dates. Person-in-charge discarded items. Observed box soda, box tomato sauce and all boxed oil stored on floor. Observed bag of sugar, open and subject contamination. Person-in-charge sealed bag. Observed open cans used to store items in reach-in cooler. Observed no chlorine test strips to be used at dishwashing machine.

Dunkin' Donuts — 1010 Highway 34 E., Suite 101, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 18, 2020 and received a 86-B. Inspector's comments: observed employee using hand-wash sink dump sanitizer. Observed no paper towels at front hand-wash sink and hand washing beside the three-compartment sink. Person-in-charge put in new paper towel rolls. Observed chemical spray bottle sitting on prep-top surface, facing coffee machines. Person-in-charge moved bottle to correct location. Observed no food service permit or CFSM certificate posted. Observed choking poster in kitchen area. Talked with person-in-charge about moving choking poster to be visible by customers. Observed no hand-wash sign in women's bathroom. Observed iced scoop with handle in ice. Person-in-charge moved handle out of ice. Observed box of single-use cup stored on floor in dry storage. Person-in-charge moved them to a shelf. Observed no test strips for sanitizer solution. Observed stained ceiling tiles throughout the kitchen area and in back storage closet. Observed low lighting in dry storage area.

Dynasty — 34 Bullsboro drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 21, 2020 and received an 86-B. Inspector's comments: observed multiple pans of meat and vegetables in reach-in coolers and freezers without lids or coverings. Person-in-charge covered the pans of food. Observed bottles of consumer-use pest control in dry storage. PIC threw them away. Observed employee medicine stored in dry storage. Person in charge moved it to an appropriate location. No hand wash sign at the hand-wash sink at the front drink station. Observed metal pan stored wet. Dishes are to be completely dry before stacking. Observed use cans being used on grill. Cans were thrown away during inspection. Observed employee drink cans above and around food prep area. Drink should be in a designated area away from food prep area. Drinks removed during inspection.

El Charro Newnan Incorporated — 77 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 7, 2020 and received a 95-A. Inspector’s comments: observed scoop handle and jalapeno container in PTC; item was moved into a proper setting place. Observed gasket in RIC in bad repair and falling off floor. Gasket should be clean and in good repair to function properly. Observed leak in pipe at mop well. Observed ice buildup on floor of WIF and a leak in WIC. Equipment should be clean and working properly.

El Ranchero — 211 East Bullsboro Drive, Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 18, 2020 and received an 83-B. Inspector's comments: observed in prep-top cooler a piece of chicken, container of shrimp and a container of steak; contaminated shrimp and steak discarded during inspection. Reorganized prep-top cooler to prevent cross- contamination. Ready to eat food stored in bottom of top cooler moved to opposite side of cooler from raw foods. Observed in walk-in cooler uncut avocado stored below and beside raw chicken, and pico de gallo stored below unwashed produce and on the same shelf as raw beef pico de gallo; moved to above unwashed produce and raw chicken move to bottom shelf. Observed chemical spray bottles hanging on counter next to reach-in cooler containing salsa. Observed chemical spray bottles stored on rack with containers of chips. Spray bottles moved to lower chemical shelf during inspection. Observed chemical spray bottles hanging on dish rack in dish machine area; chemicals should be stored on the lower shelf, not hung on upper shelf where dishes are stored. Need employee hand wash signs in bar area and both ladies’ and men's restrooms. Observed no hot water at hand-wash sink and bar area. Observed no cold water at hand washing and main kitchen area, and pipe below hand-wash sink dripping water. Person-in-charge stated he is working on the hand-wash sink in the main kitchen and that he would adjust the hot water heater for the sink and bar area. Observed chipped floor tiles in doorway of walk-in cooler with standing water present, low grout in dish machine area, chipped tiles under fryer. Missing hood filter over grill area. Observed ceiling dripping over reach-in coolers next to dish area. Person-in-charge stated repairs were made to ceiling leak, and they will need to have repairs made again. Stained ceiling tiles and storage closet and dish machine. Observed bad gaskets on bottom doors of prep-top coolers and grill area.

El Taquito LLC — 1389 Highway 29 S., Newnan — was inspected on Feb. 13, 2020 and received a 95-A. Inspector’s comments: was not able to observe signed health policies. Observed scoops in containers coming in contact with food. Scoop handle should not come in contact with food if stored in container.
