With school closings extended well into April, many Coweta families are finding themselves in need of basic school supplies to use at home.

Items like composition books, crayons, pencils, pens and sidewalk chalk are being requested by families who utilize the resources at Bridging the Gap Community Outreach.

Executive Director Kelli Yeager-Nelson said that while BTG doesn’t typically request donations of school supplies, the organization is adding those items to its list of non-food donation needs.

“We have families with kids who are in middle and elementary school, and a lot don’t have internet access,” she said. “As they have been picking up food, they are the ones saying, ‘Do you have coloring books and crayons my child can use?’ Their kids need to keep practicing writing their letters and working on math problems.”

School supplies can be dropped off at BTG, 19 1st Avenue in Newnan, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Fridays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon.
