The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

714 Bar, 7 Spring Street, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 9 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed large trash can at sink height in front of handwash sink. No soap in dispenser, but a large container that requires opening the lid to use. New violation. Need procedure for Norovirus and employee health policy--reporting forms and decision tree. New violation. Observed raw fish above milk and dairy products with shell eggs beside the dairy products and raw meat on the other side. Store ready-to-eat foods above raw animal foods and unwashed produce below ready-to-eat. New violation. Observed consumer advisory disclosure on menu, but printing is blurry and reminder is not present on menu. Add an asterisk by items that may be cooked to order or a reminder statement by each menu item that may be cooked to order. New violation. Observed items (cutting boards, dish racks, etc) stored on the floor in the kitchen and storage room. Need shelving and everything off the floor. Insufficient space for menu and dishwashing/air-drying and storage. Add shelving and clean containers by removing purchase stickers before putting them into use. New violation. Observed employee in kitchen with gloves but no hair restraint. New violation. Observed employee coats and personal items not stored in a designated area. New violation. Sanitizer bucket needed in kitchen during food prep for wiping surfaces to prevent contamination. New violation.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 342 Newnan Crossing Bypass E, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 3 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed front food-service display cooler holding food items above 41 degrees F such as quiche at 51 degrees F and 49.5 degrees F. Ambient cooler temperature at 48 degrees F. New violation. Observed cups on front counter stacked exposing the drinking area to possible contamination. Cups should be left in the plastic sleeve to protect from possible contamination. New violation. Observed boxes stored on the floor in main kitchen area. All prepackaged items and single-use items should be stored six inches or higher off the floor. New violation.

CC’s Wings & Things, 23 Franklin Road, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 8 and received a score of 81-B. Inspector’s comments: No Certified Food Safety Manager yet. Repeat violation. No paper towels at handwash sink. Paper towels provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed boxes and bag of trash stacked in front of handwash sink, making the area difficult to access. New violation. Observed flour bin in need of labeling. New violation. Expired packages of shredded cabbage and mead, discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Need probe thermometer for checking food temps. Thermometers in reach-in cooler may need replacing if not working properly. New violation. Observed a bowl stored inside raw chicken. New violation. Observed styrofoam takeout trays stored with food area facing upward exposing the lip area to possible contamination. Takeout trays should be stored inverted. New violation. Observed heavy grease buildup on outsides of fryers and on hood filters above fryers. Buildup on insides of microwaves. New violation. Observed rusted shelves under prep-tables and hole on shelf under prep-table, rusted racks in main kitchen area, unused equipment such as an ice machine and prep-top should be stored away clean until removed from kitchen area. New violation. Observed holes in wall surrounding handwash sink. Floors, walls, ceilings and hard to reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Stained ceiling tiles and unwashable ceiling tiles in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed broom stored next to dry storage shelf in kitchen area. New violation. Observed open canned drinks on top of service prep-top cooler and aprons hanging on dry storage rack in main kitchen. New violation.

Contemporary Catering, 25 Herring Road, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 6 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dented cans of black beans on dry storage shelf. Cans marked and separated during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Georgian Stadium 14, 232 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 3 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup on soda nozzles at drink stations in front food-service area. New violation. Observed foods in bottom of prep-top cooler in front food-service area exceeding date marking use by date such as steak with use by date of Dec. 31 and spinach with use by date of Jan. 1. Foods discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. No employee handwash signs at front food service handwash sink and at handwash sink in the dishwashing area. Need choking poster in lobby area. Handwash signs and choking posters may be printed at www.georgiaeh.us . New violation. Observed a tool bag and hammer stored on shelf above bins containing plastic food trays. Observed broom leaning against freezer drawers behind front food-service area. Observed hand-held vacuums stored on counter and brooms and dust pans leaning against the wall in front food service area. All maintenance tools and cleaning supplies should be returned to a designated storage area after use. New violation. Observed employee apron hanging on clean dish rack next to three-comparment sink. New violation.

Golden Corral, 605 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 8 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed food in reach-in cooler across from steamer cabinets at temperatures above 41 degrees F, including black-eyed peas at 52.3 degrees F, broccoli at 46.6 degrees F and cauliflower at 46.2 degrees F. Person-in-charge moved all items in cooler to walk-in cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed items on bar with time-marking that was one hour off from actual time. Person-in-charge checked time-sticker machine and stated they would fix time. Observed time-marking stickers with no written specification of which products were with that sticker, and one sticker covering multiple items. Talked with person-in-charge about each item receiving its own time-stamp. New violation. Observed open bags of breading and grits, subject to contamination. Person-in-charge had bags properly sealed. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Wingyard, 114 Temple Avenue, Suite C, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 8 and received a score of 80-B. Inspector’s comments: No Certified Food Safety Manager. New violation. No soap at handwash sink upon arrival. Soap provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. No paper towels at handwash sink, clean towel provided during inspection. Person-in-charge stated employee went to buy paper towels. New violation. Tongs hanging on prep-sink basin touching trash can bag, buildup on slicer stored below prep-counter, wire rack and fryer basket on shelf above prep-sink stored on top of fly swatter, purchase sticker on outsides of plastic food containers. New violation. Observed expired milk in reach-in cooler dated Dec. 1, discarded during inspection, and a bag of spinach dated Dec. 30 in bottom of prep-top cooler. New violation. No probe thermometer to test foods. Thermometers needed inside reach-in coolers. New violation. Observed water dripping from fan unit inside reach-in cooler into bucket. Food particles inside bottoms of reach-in coolers should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Ice buildup on shelves inside reach-in freezer. Hardees #1500659, 231 Temple Avenue, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 9 and received a score of 84-B. Inspector’s comments: Buildup on dicer above prep-sink in main kitchen area. Equipment should be washed, rinsed and sanitized after use and stored away clean. New violation. Observed several items on the prep-line without time stickers and with expired time stickers such as no time stickers on lettuce and tomato. Stickers added during inspection and cheese sticker with discard time of 9:44 a.m. Cheese discarded and new cheese with correct time put on prep-line. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed tongs laying in jalapenos, handle portion should be positioned above the content. New violation. Observed metal food pans wet-stacked above the prep-sink in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed cups overstocked behind front food service counter, exposing the lip area to possible contamination. New violation. Observed rust on racks in reach-in cooler, food particles in bottoms of reach-in coolers and freezers and split gaskets on reach-in cooler doors. New violation. Observed broom stored next to handwash sink behind front food service area, broom and pan in main kitchen area, all maintenance tools should be returned to mop-well area after use. New violation. Observed stained ceiling tiles in main kitchen area, dust on ceiling vent covers in main kitchen area and buildup in basins of three-compartment sink. Floors, walls, ceilings and hard to reach areas should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. Observed faucet dripping at handwash sink in grill area. New violation. Krystal, 220 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 7 and received a score of 78-C. Inspector’s comments: No Certified food Safety Manager posted, no certification available during inspection. New violation. Observed buildup on soda nozzles in drive through area and on walls of ice machine. New violation. Observed hot dogs in steam-well at 107 degrees F. Hot dogs discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed cheese at 51 degrees F with date mark stickers exceeding Jan. 7, 6 a.m.-10 a.m. Time on stickers not changed when cheese containers were refilled. Stickers updated during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed open sugar in drive through area and one box of frozen food on the floor in walk-in freezer, moved to shelf during inspection. New violation. La Fiesta, 7 Jackson Street, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 7 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed shelled eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods, including shredded cheese and chopped vegetables. Person-in-charge moved eggs to a lower shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed bag of sugar open and subject to contamination. Person-in-charge rolled and taped bag. Observed bowls being used as scoops for chicken and beef. Person-in-charge removed bowls and used tongs instead. Observed boxes of lettuce being stored on floor while being cut. Person-in-charge moved boxes off of the floor. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed handwash sink coming away from the wall. Sink needs to be sealed/caulked back to the wall. New violation.

Lisa’s Creperie, 48 Main Street, Suite 1B, Senoia – was inspected Jan. 3 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed wiping cloth quaternary solution not at minimum strength. Person-in-charge made a new bucket of sanitizer. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation. Observed scoop handles touching food in sugar bin and granola. Person-in-charge moved handles out of product. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee purse stored on shelf above sugar bin. Person-in-charge moved it to appropriate location. Corrected on-site. New violation.

McMaster BBQ & Catering, 75 Main Street, Suite A, Senoia – was inspected Jan. 3 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed hot-held foods below 135 degrees F, including two pans of brisket in steam table at 115.1 and 123.3 degrees F and ribs in warmer drawer at 125.9 degrees F. Person-in-charge moved items to smoker to be reheated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed sanitizing solution at less than minimum strength. Person-in-charge made new sanitizer. Newnan Senior Center, 29 Hospital Road, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 8 and received a score of 100-A.

Papa John’s Pizza Store #2540, 90 Glenda Trace, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 3 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one bag of meatballs exceeding date marking in the walk-in cooler with use by date of Dec. 30. Meatballs discarded during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed flour bin with no label. New violation. Current inspection not posted. New violation. No food service permit displayed. New violation. Observed two broken lids on prep-top cooler in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed paint peeling on sides of ceiling vent cover over prep-area. New violation. Pathways Center, 74 Hospital Road, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 9 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed onions in peel and unwashed carrots over ready to eat foods. New violation. Observed sheet pans, small cooler with dispenser and crate on floor in kitchen area. Charging cord in food pan on cart. Moved cooler to cart and placed in a food pan on cart. Scoops in food bins touching outside of bags. Certified Food Safety Manager was instructed to wash items from floor and items that were contaminated. Sheet pans to be discarded. New violation. Observed Certified Food Safety Manager/only kitchen employee cooking without a hair restraint. Located and donned prior to serving. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed hot water not operating at handwash sink next to drive through area and cold water not operating at handwash sink in food prep-area. New violation. Inspector’s comments: Observed sanitizer at three-compartment sink below minimum concentration. Person-in-charge added bleach to bring concentration to correct level. Corrected on-site. Wendy’s #5461, 1210 Highway 34 E, Newnan – was inspected Jan. 6 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed items in prep-top cooler above 41 degrees F with no time stamp, including shredded cheese at 50.1 degrees F, sliced cheese at 46.8 degrees F, sliced tomatoes at 47.3 degrees F, guacamole at 48.8 degrees F and ranch dressing at 47.6 degrees F. Person-in-charge threw items away and reset cooler to bring temperature down. Talked with person-in-charge about items that require time stamps. Corrected on-site. New violation.
