Coweta County jailer arrested, accused of sexually assaulting inmate

Cody Alan Martin

A Coweta County jailer is now out of a job after he allegedly engaged in a sexual act with an inmate.

Cody Alan Martin, 25, of Newnan, was arrested Monday on charges of sexual assault against a person in custody.

The investigation began last weekend when several inmates approached jail staff, alleging that Marin was having sexual contact with a female inmate, according to Nelly Miles, public affairs director for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The Coweta County Sheriff's Office conducted an initial investigation that revealed inappropriate conduct had occurred and requested that the GBI investigate, Miles said.

As a result of the investigation, warrants were obtained for Martin and he was booked into the Fayette County Jail without incident and later released on bond. The investigation remains active and ongoing, Miles said.

Martin was hired by the sheriff’s office in January 2018 and was terminated following his arrest, according to Col. James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
