Each year, the Carolyn Barron Montessori School honors veterans by inviting them to the classrooms to speak to the students about their experiences.

This year, the school marked Veterans Day with a visit from John Hrinko of Newnan, who shared about his military experiences with students. Hrinko was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 1986 as a 2nd Lieutenant and completed flight school in 1988.

Hrinko flew a KC-130 Hercules in the Gulf War. He worked as a flight instructor for 12 years and left the Marine Corps having achieved the rank of major. Hrinko later joined the Air Force Reserves and flew with the 53d Weather Reconnaissance Squadron – the world-famous Hurricane Hunters – in Biloxi, Miss.

He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and became a historian at the Air Force Research Agency before retiring in 2008 with 22 years of military service.
