Season ends for East Coweta at Grayson

The Newnan Times-Herald

The East Coweta Indians had upset on their mind Friday night in the second round of the Class 7 A playoffs.

Grayson, whose only loss this season was to Colquitt, had other ideas, holding off a rally attempt by the Indians en route to a 42-21 victory.

Grayson led 14-0 with two quick scores in the first quarter and pushed the lead to 21-7 at the half.

East Coweta cut the lead to 21-14 with the only touchdown in the third quarter.

Grayson, however, punched its ticket to the Elite 8 by outscoring East Coweta 21-7 over the final 12 minutes.

East Coweta kept itself in the game early when quarterback Devin Gelband connected with Jager Weddington on short pass for TD pass to cut the lead to 14-7 early in the second quarter.

After Grayson went up 21-7, East Coweta turned in one of its best series of the night, keeping the ball for nine plays and moving it 80 yards. Running back Jayland Rivers cut the gap to 21-14 with a 1-yard run to cap the best drive of the night for the Indians.

Grayson added three straight fourth-quarter touchdowns to put some distance between themselves and the Indians.

East Coweta added one final score late when Rakiyon Moss haued in a 36 yard pass.

East Coweta finishes the season with a 6-6 record.
