Please allow me to say a heartfelt thanks to the 12267 voters who on Nov. 5 endorsed the much-needed enhancements of the school board tax exemptions for tax bills paid by senior citizens.
This overwhelming affirmation makes the 22-month effort very worthwhile as it is, in reality, one of the largest tax breaks we have seen in our county.
The thanks also need to be extended in a big way to our local Board of Education members, Supt. Steve Barker, our legislative delegation led by Rep. Lynn Smith and Sen. Matt Brass, our County Commissioners and many others who supported this effort as it unfolded.
I said all along it is the “right thing to do “ and the voters solidly agreed. My payback came last week when a 95-year-old lady gave me a big hug and said “thanks for watching after the seniors.”
I do encourage others to be persistent in speaking up to help the government serve the people better. I am confident that together we can fix any problem.
