The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage, and other areas.

AMC Newnan 10, 87 Newnan Station Drive, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 8 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemicals stored over box of butter topping. Person-in-charge moved butter topping to designated area. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed bag of popcorn kernels stored on the floor. Person-in-charge moved bag to shelf. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed employee belongings stored on top of boxed soda. Person-in-charge moved items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers Starbucks, 342 Newnan Crossing Bypass E, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 12 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one quart of half and half with expired best by date of 9/8/19. New violation. Observed cups at register overstocked, exposing the lip area to possible contamination. New violation.

Depot Grill Junction Lanes Family Entertainment, 141 Newnan Station Drive, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 6 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no handwash sign in women’s bathroom. Gave person-in-charge a paper copy until one could be laminated. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed single-use plates, cups and bowls not inverted. Person-in-charge inverted all of the items. Corrected on-site. New violation.

DJ’s Smoke House Specialties, 104 Temple Avenue, Suite B, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 12 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple items over 41 degrees Fahrenheit in cold-holding unit. Person-in-charge threw items away or cooled down in freezer. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed hot held items below 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Talked to person-in-charge about proper reheating techniques for hot-holding. Person-in-charge reheated items on grill. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no date marking on potentially hazardous food held more than 24 hours. Person-in-charge added dates. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Einstein Bros Bagels, 311 Bullsboro Drive, Suite 100, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 6 and received a score of 97-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed four gallons of milk in the walk-in cooler with expired dates of Sept. 5 2019, milk removed from service during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Frank’s Family Restaurant, 1188 Collinsworth Road, Palmetto – was inspected Sept. 9 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed one wet wiping cloth on lower shelf in prep area outside kitchen, wiping cloths should be either in use or stored in a sanitized bucket between uses. New violation. Observed torn screen on screen doorway leading to outside chemical storage area. Screen should be re-attached to door to prevent possible entry of pests. Observed heavy ice buildup in doorway of walk-in freezer. New violation.

Green Demon at Arbor Springs, 300 Arbor Springs Parkway, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 12 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Chemicals in dry storage area stored next to kitchen equipment, moved to underneath three-compartment sink. Corrected on-site. New violation. Shell eggs stored over ready-to-eat items moved to lower shelf in walk-in cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed ice build up around doorway of walk-in freezer, stained and torn ceiling tiles in main kitchen area. New violation. Extension cord stored with kitchen appliances moved to shelf next to mp well. Coat and other unnecessary items stored above single use cups in storage area should be removed from kitchen or stored separate from single use items. New violation.

Wingyard, 114 Temple Avenue, Suite C, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 12 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed raw chicken stored above uncooked fish, uncooked hamburger stored next to uncooked fish, and cooked shrimp stored next to uncooked hamburger. Cooler re-organized during inspection and gave person-in-charge a copy of safe cooler storage poster. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed water dripping into a bucket from below fan unit in reach-in cooler. New violation.

Huddle House, 1430 Highway 29 S., Newnan – was inspected Sept. 3 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed potentially hazardous food held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit in the prep-top cooler and reach-in cooler underneath the prep-top. Person-in-charge turned thermostat down and closed the lids. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed buildup of grease and food debris in and on drawers and dishes under fryer/grill area. Person-in-charge stated that they are supposed to be cleaned on second shift, but they would talk to employees. Repeat violation.

Katie Lou’s Cafe, 70 Main Street, Senoia – was inspected Sept. 11 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed buildup inside drawers below grill area. Dust on ceiling tiles and light shields in main kitchen area. New violation. Tiles at mop well need to be grouted. New violation.

Knife and Stone, 30 Perry Street, Newnan – was inspected Sept. 6 and received a score of 75-C. Inspector’s comments: Observed no hand soap at hand wash sink. Soap provided during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Trash receptacle needed at hand wash sink. New violation. Observed raw venison stored on cooked lobster. Observed raw beef stored on raw chicken. Observed uncut whole onions stored next to sugar and flour, observed unwashed potatoes stored on equipment. Cooler re-organized and onions and potatoes moved during inspection. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed ice buildup inside meat slide cooler. New violation. Thermometer needed inside meat slide cooler. New violation. Observed several employees without hair restraints and beard restraints. New violation. Observed employee wearing bracelets. New violation. Last inspection and certified food safety manager certificate available but not posted in view. No choking poster in dining area. New violation. Observed buildup in hard-to-reach areas in main kitchen area. New violation. Observed debris around building such as a discarded fryer, grill and other unnecessary items. Unused ice machine in room with meat cooler should be removed from service if not in use. New violation. Observed missing hood filters over grill area, person-in-charge stated they were removed for cleaning. New violation. Observed employee cup behind prep top cooler in main kitchen, shoes, hair brush in room with meat cooler. New violation.

Matt’s Small Town Pizza, 53 Main Street, Suite E, Senoia – was inspected Sept. 11 and received a score of 93-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black build inside ice machine in drop area, ice machine should be cleaned at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed plastic food containers wet stacked on rack next to dish machine. Containers should be allowed to air dry completely before stacking. New violation. Observed lime build up inside dish machine, dish machine should be cleaned with a delimer at a frequency to prevent accumulation. New violation. Observed dust build up on hanging fan in kitchen area. New violation. Observed employee drink in disposable cup with lad an straw stored on shelf with dishware, employee water bottle and cup stored next to take-out boxes, hats hanging on rack with dishware. All employee items should be stored in a designated area way from the food prep area. New violation.

Subway #50113, 30 Raymond Hill Road, Suite B – was inspected Sept. 9 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed apron and hat stored on drink trays on storage shelf, employee purse stored on storage rack next to single use items and employee drink in disposable cup with lid and straw stored on back prep counter across from storage rack. Need designated area for employee items. New violation. Observed five chocolate milks with expired best by dates of Aug. 24 2019 in self serve reach-in cooler, removed from cooler to be discarded during inspection. Observed six milks in the walk-in cooler with expired best by dates of Sept. 2 2019 in a bag. Person-in-charge stated owner is going to take them home. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed no lid on trash receptacle in ladies restroom. New violation. Observed open door on dumpster. New violation.

Subway #62716, 3100 E Highway 16, Suite D, Sharpsburg – was inspected Sept. 12 and received a score of 98-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee belongings stored beside soda on bottom shelf. Observed employee belongings stored above prep table. Employee moved item to appropriate location. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.
