The Coweta Board of Environmental Health inspects all Coweta restaurants, schools and businesses that serve food several times each year.

Food inspections can be conducted during any hours of operation or whenever food is being prepped in the permitted establishment. Inspections are made at varying times to ensure that the food service rules and regulations are being followed. Some establishments have hours after 5 p.m. Therefore, inspections will be conducted when risk factors can be observed for compliance. Inspectors wear hair nets during checks to protect the food, which is also a requirement for those working around open food.

Using a 41-category checklist, an environmental health specialist checks compliance in safe handling of food, proper disposal of garbage and other areas.

China One, 487 Jackson Street, Suite 109, Newnan – was inspected August 21 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed no thermometer for measuring temperatures of food, whether cooked or cooling. New violation. Observed tin cans reused to hold oil and water. Person-in-charge threw away tin cans and replaced them with metal containers. Corrected On-site. New Violation.

Coweta County Correctional Facility, 560 Greison Trail, Newnan –  was inspected August 16 and received a score of 94-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed scoop stored in flour bin with handle touching content. New Violation. Observed one box of styrofoam cups stored on the floor. New violation.

Eat Thai, 33 E Broad Street, Newnan – was inspected August 19 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed open bag of rice. Person-in-charge moved rice to a container with a lid. Corrected on-site. Repeat Violation.

Golden’s On The Square, 9 E. Court Square, Newnan – was inspected August 19 and received a score of 87-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed dish machine sanitizer not at minimum strength. Person-in-charge stated they would use the other dish machine. Correct on-site. New violation. Reach-in coolers in main kitchen close to sink/start of bar were above 41 degrees Fahrenheit, including: raw chicken, mashed potatoes and lima beans. Person-in-charge moved items to walk-in cooler and called maintenance to fix the coolers. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Magic Wings & Things, 47 E. Newnan Road, Newnan – was inspected August 19 and received a score of 86-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed bulk food bins of flour and cornmeal with no labels. Repeat violation. Observed frozen fish filets stored in grocery bags in deep freezer, fish should be stored in food grade container or bag. New violation. Observed door on beverage cooler door broken at hinges and a missing ceiling vent cover in waiting area. New Violation.

Nard BBQ, 5320 Highway 29, Grantville – was inspected August 16 and received a score of 85-B. Inspector’s comments: No certified food safety manager on staff. Person-in-charge stated he is scheduled to take the test. New Violation. Observed multiple foods in fridge and in mini-fridge that were above 41 degrees Fahrenheit, including raw ribs, hot dogs, chopped cabbage, potato salad and coleslaw. New violation.

Olive Garden, 212 Newnan Crossing Bypass, Newnan –  was inspected August 20 and received a score of 95-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed black buildup on top back wall of ice bin under drink station in main kitchen. New violation. Observed one drink in disposable cup with lid and straw stored on shelf above cooler drawers in main kitchen area. New violation.

McDonald’s, 58 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected August 21 and received a score of 90-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed multiple products out of temperature on the cold-holding line, with date-mark stickers for a 24-hour hold time. Person-in-charge explained that the wrong sticker was placed on the items. The 24-hour holds are for the packages in the walk-in cooler. Items on the line are supposed to have 4-hour time stamp. Person-in-charge printed and changed the stickers. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed multiple pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge moved items to dry separately. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Panda Express, 1015 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected August 19 and received a score of 96-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried bell pepper skin on dicer stored on lower shelf near prep sink, and pink and black mold on deflector shield of ice machine. New violation.

Red Lobster, 990 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected August 20 and received a score of 88-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed potentially hazardous foods in reach-in cooler and ice bath at temperatures above 41 degrees Fahrenheit as detailed in the temperature observations. Person-in-charge moved items to another cooler. Corrected on-site. New violation. Observed pans wet-stacked. Person-in-charge had them separated to air-dry properly. Corrected on-site. Repeat violation.

Reposteria Criss Inc, 21 Bullsboro Drive, Suite A, Newnan –  was inspected August 21 and received a score of 83-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed pans of raw meat stored above produce in reach-in cooler, meat moved during inspection. New violation. Observed open corn meal in food truck area and several open bags of flour and sugar in prep area. New violation.

Steak ‘N Shake, 1249 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected August 19 and received a score of 91-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed dried chili spots on inside bowl in drawer, returned to dish area during inspection. Observed food particles on inside of microwave. New violation. Observed water dripping from fan unit in walk-in cooler onto boxes of uncut tomatoes. Person-in-charge stated tomatoes would be washed before slicing and boxes would be covered until dripping is fixed. Suggested placing a pan under fan to collect water. Corrected on-site. New violation.

Summer Grove Golf Club, 335 SummerGrove Parkway, Newnan –  was inspected August 21 and received a score of 92-A. Inspector’s comments: Observed chemical spray bottles hanging on sink basin behind bar area and chemical spray bottles hanging on beverage bottle shelf behind bar area. New violation. Observed outlet plug pushed in wall leaving a hole in wall next to reach-in cooler in main kitchen area. Observed raw wood being used underneath two prep tables to create shelves. New violation.

Sushi Ken, 1067 Bullsboro Drive, Newnan –  was inspected August 19 and received a score of 82-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed rice on utensils stored in room temperature water in sushi area. New violation. Handwash sinks need trash cans available for disposing of paper towels. New violation. Observed brooms and mops not hung during storage. New violation.

Waffle House, 229 Temple Avenue, Newnan –  was inspected August 21 and received a score of 89-B. Inspector’s comments: Observed employee empty and rinse personal cup in hand wash sink. New violation. Observed fork stored in raw chicken with handle touching chicken. New violation. Observed dumpster door open. New violation.
