A strong local press needs financial support to survive

I have been thinking about your recent articles and columns about local newspapers in general and specifically the NTH.

While I have been a frequent critic of the NTH over the years and have steadfastly refused to pay over any advertising dollars for anything other than legal advertisements, I recognize how important it is for a community to have a free press, even one with which I disagree more often than not.

A perfect example of the community service you provide is illustrated by the recent death of a family member. Stacie Williams, your Director of Customer Service, readily accepted the obituary and, then, when we realized that a correction needed to be made, she promptly made the correction with nary a complaint.

For obituaries, reports on local government, and all the other information that is found in the NTH it needs to survive and thrive.

I have therefore decided to start spending a significant portion of my advertising dollars with the NTH going forward and would encourage my fellow Newnanites and Cowetans to do the same.

We need a strong local press, even if we do disagree with it.
