Leola Victoria Johnson Anderson

Leola Victoria Johnson Anderson, age 90, passed away August 22, 2019, in Atlanta, GA surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on March 12, 1929, in Morris City, IL to the late Mrs. Beryl Hoge Lyne and Mr. Clair Raymond Johnson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters; Margery Louise, Lois Jean, and Helen Elaine, stepson, Harry Robert Anderson, Jr. and first husband, William Harshman, in April of 1953.

She is survived by her husband Harry Robert Anderson, sons: Paul Wayne Anderson (Karen),

James Edward Anderson (Sara), stepdaughters; Sandra Anderson Suggs (Robert) and Rosie

Anderson Mayer (Robert), 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and nephew William (Billy) Walker of Mechlenberg, North Carolina.

Leola attended Carthage College in Carthage, IL where she studied music. After moving to Miami, she married William Harshman March 17, 1952 in Sarasota, Florida. She worked for Eastern Airlines both in their offices and as a flight attendant until 1961.

February 22, 1961, Lee married Harry Robert Anderson. After settling in Newnan in 1966, she became actively involved in the community. She participated in tutoring at her children's school along with her mother-in-law Dorothy Bullard.

Lee was actively involved in Central Baptist Church both in singing in the choir and Sunday school. During this time, 1978, she partnered in creating the Fellowship of Christian Women. In 1983, Lee and Harry became founding members of Grace Community Fellowship church. It was here that Lee, along with other founding members, created the Women of Grace. 

As a part of her ministry to women, Lee and Carol Rexroad began the Women's Crisis Center of Newnan (now Coweta Pregnancy Services). For many years, she was an active board member and Treasurer.  

As a devoted Christian, Lee wrote and illustrated “The Empty Spot,” and this has been an amazing tool in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thousands of these booklets have been handed out by Lee over the years. Lee was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Lee was gracious and kind in all that she did. She will be missed by all.

The funeral service celebrating Lee’s life is Saturday, August 31, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Grace Community Fellowship Church, 75 Roscoe Road, in Newnan with Pastor Carl Greene officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Newnan. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
