The First United Methodist Church Youth Choir will sing at the Youth Choir Homecoming services on Sunday, June 9, at 8:30 and 10:55 a.m.

The choir is returning from its annual tour. On June 1, 64 choir members and 13 chaperones left for Florida where they led in worship at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville and St. John’s United Methodist Church in Winter Haven.

They also sang for residents of Westminster Towers in Orlando and Epworth Village in Hialeah. There also was a concert at the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in

Sanford, where choir members also did a service project.

The trip did include a beach day at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys and day at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Chaperones were Craig Bryan, Kevin Daniell, Laurie Fambro, Dani Kelly, David Kinrade, Bonnie Krider, Bernice Phelps, Brent Ritter, Kelley Ritter, Kristy Rossey, Matt Rossey,

David Royal and Kevin Wilkins.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Roscoe Road, will celebrate Pentecost on Sunday.

There will be one service at 10:30 a.m. with a picnic style lunch to follow. The church will be providing burgers, hotdogs, drinks, and cake with ice cream. Attendees will bring a cold side dish/salad to share.

Everyone is invited to wear red. At 4 p.m., the parish choir will lead a service of Evensong.

Providence Baptist Church on Summers-McKoy Road will honor Dr. and Mrs. Melvin D. Brittian Jr. on Sunday, June 9.

“The church will be celebrating Dr. Brittian’s 29th anniversary as pastor at Providence,” said church member Doris Powell. James Stegall will bring the message at the 11 a.m. service, and Antoine Martin will deliver the afternoon sermon at 2.

Stegall is pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Opelika, Ala. Martin is pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newnan.

“Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall following the afternoon service,” Powell said.

Resurrection Lutheran Church, Lora Smith Road, will hold a potluck meal after church on Sunday, June 9 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees are invited to bring a favorite family dish or family ethnic dish. If possible, they are asked to also share the history of the dish.

Drinks and desserts will be provided.

Rocky Mount Bethel Baptist Church, 3469 Luthersville Road, Luthersville will celebrate its 152nd church anniversary on Sunday, June 9.

There will be services at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Kenneth L. Curtis, pastor of the church, will preach in the morning.  The afternoon sermon will be delivered by Willie Sinkfield, pastor of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Alvaton and the Pine Level Baptist Church of  Johnson City.

A retirement reception for Dr. David Naglee, Methodist pastor and former LaGrange District superintendent, will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m.

The reception will be held at First United Methodist Church, 6167 Prestley Mill Road, Douglasville. Naglee is well known to many in Coweta and preached revival services at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in 2011.

St. Peter Baptist Church, 1586 Lower Fayetteville Road, celebrated his 147th church anniversary on June 2.

Apostle Tilden Colton of City of Zion Church preached. Dinner was served immediately following the service.
