EC leads way on All-County girls soccer team

When the dust settled on the 2019 girls soccer season, all six schools were well represented on this years’ Newnan-Times-Herald/CowetaScore All-County soccer team.

East Coweta leads the way with eight players on the either the first or second team, Northgate placed six, Newnan, five, Trinity three, Heritage one and Central one.

The Lady Indians Laney Steed, who will take her soccer talents to the University of Florida, was named the Player of the Year, while Brookelyn Still was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Steed and Still helped lead the Lady Indians to a 19-3-1 record and a trip to the Sweet 16.

After beating North Paulding in the first round of the playoffs, East Coweta ended the season with a loss to Roswell.

Steed ended her high school carer with 38 goals and 13 assists. She was also the Player of the Year in Class 7A and the Region 2-7A MVP.

Still earned her Defensive Player of the Year accolade as the county’s top defensive player with four  goals and nine assists. She also earned a spot on the First Team All-Region.

Also from East Coweta, senior goalie Abbie Chaves  earned a spot on the First Team after making 77 saves and finishing the year with nine shutouts. She also earned First-Team All-Region honors.

East Coweta senior midfielder Adriana Garcia finished with 15 goals, 12 assists and also earned All-Region honors.

Senior midfielder Ellie Watson earned First-Team county honors after scoring 13 goals and 17 assists. She also earned All-Region 2-7A honors.

The Lady Indians junior defensive specialist Megan Rainey also made First-Team honors.

For Newnan, four-year  defensive starter Ansley Cost earned a spot for the Lady Cougars on the First-Team All-County roster.

Junior Maddie Miller, who has started for three years in goal for Newnan, also made the All-County First-Team honors.

Junior forward Alice Marsh Willems scored 15 goals and had eight assists for the Lady Cougars en route to All-County First-Team honors.

Junior Maggie Flanagan also made it for Newnan .Earning First-Team honors for the Northgate Lady Vikings were junior forward Emily Adamczyk, forward Kailyn Borngesser, junior defensive specialist Madison Cathey and junior Hannah Sutherland.

Three  players from East Coweta head up the All-County second team for the Lady Indians.

Senior midfielder Haley Cox had a goal and three assists en route to Second-Team honors.

Junior Emily Darnell finished the season with a goal and four assists for the Lady Indians to earn Second-Team All-County honors.

Senior defender Haley Davis finished with six goals and seven assists for the Lady Indians en route to her Second-Team County effort.

Senior Haley Cox earned her a spot on the second team for East Coweta.

For Newnan, freshman midfielder Mollie Anderson broke into high school soccer in a big way finishing with Second-Team County honors after starting every game for the Lady Cougars.

Senior defender Ryanne Hart was a captain for the Lady Cougars and was a four-year starter for Newnan on her way to Second-Team County honors.

Defender midfielder Lizzy Grant and  midfielder Elissa Lotter earned Second-Team honors for Northgate.

Three players earned Second-Team honors for Trinity who completed its first season of Georgia High School Association competition.

Freshman  Maddie Beasley had a big first season of high school soccer , putting the ball in the back of the net 19 times and assisting on four goals en route to Second-Team honors.

Trinity sophomore  midfielder Olivia Loris also earned Second-Team honors for the Lady Lions .

Trinity freshman goalie Tori Pabst was sharp in the net for the Lady Lions with 120 saves, five shutouts and a 2.42 goals against average.

Heritage freshman midfielder Michaela Mikkko earned All-County second team after making All-Region and GISA All-State.Central freshman Ashlyn Settle finished with 20 goals, 14 assists, with three hat tricks.
