Grantville will commemorate Memorial Day on Monday at Veterans Park beginning at 9 a.m.

The program is held each year and is sponsored by the Grantville Veterans Association.

Leon Dyes with the association said the event is open to the public. He said volunteers placed flags on veteran graves Thursday.

Elliott Jordan will be the keynote speaker for Monday’s event. Jordan served in the U.S. Navy and Army and also served inDesert Shield/Desert Storm.

Dyes said a Boy Scout will also play Taps at the end of the ceremony.

Memorial Day events are also planned for Newnan and Senoia.

A memorial program will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza in the city park at Temple Avenue and Jackson Street in downtown Newnan. Planners recommend attendees bring folding chairs.

If it is raining, the Memorial Day program will be held at McKoon Funeral Home. A free community lunch will follow at the Coweta Veterans Club off Highway 29, just north of Newnan.

Events will be held in Senoia from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A program at noon and a 2 p.m. parade will be highlights of the Senoia observance.

Senoia’s event will include “a children’s entertainment area, antiques and arts and crafts vendors, and a food court,” said Suzanne Helfman of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority. “There is something for everyone.”

A fireworks display will be held in Senoia’s Marimac Lakes Park at dark, weather permitting. The Senoia DDA sponsors the free event, which is being held for the 14th year.
