Authorities are still searching for a gray pit bull believed to have been involved in the deaths of four horses and a cat in Palmetto.
On Sept. 14, members of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and Coweta Animal Services arrived at a home on Ridley Road to investigate the reported attack.
Witnesses described the two dogs that attacked the horses and cat as a gray pit bull mix – wearing a leather collar with silver studs – and a small white and brown terrier mix.
Over the next few days, animal services officers followed up on several tips and sightings but were unable to locate the dogs or the owners, according to Coweta County Communications Manager Tom Corker.
Traps were set in the area and have been checked frequently.
On Sept. 30, Animal Services responded to 126 Ridley Road, where both dogs were located. They captured the smaller dog but were unable to catch the pit bull, which escaped into the woods.
Corker said Animal Services is checking and re-baiting traps, as well as searching the area, and will continue until they capture the dog.
